Just Rome. I remember enjoying it, but when I came back years latter, I couldn't figure out how to play anymore. Like, I don't understand what to do in battle at all

Yeah, a bunch of them. Started with Medieval 1.
Rome 1 is a classic but is outdated (performance/engine wise) and even with big mods like EB it still lags. Medieval 2 is awesome and one of the all time best, especially with mods like Stainless Steel (historical) or the LOTR conversion. Empire/Napoleon are fun but very niche, gotta know what you're getting into. Shogun 2 is the most polished to this day imo. Very streamlined, smooth, and easy to get into and have big battles. Rome 2 sucked forever but is actually the best modern engine historical TW game, imo. Especially with DEI installed. Attila is cute if you want to play as WRE and experience a fucking survival horror game. Besides that it's buggy and laggy. Warhammer 1 (+2) is my favorite so far but I'm a huge AoS/ED/40k nerd. --- Since only from below can one better see the heights. https://imgur.com/OhZgm ... Copied to Clipboard!

Can you play the game and only do Auto-Battle? I still have Rome on Steam, and I do have Rome 2 as well, but I don't think I ever played it --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have like...all of them, yet never even played oneDepends on what you want the most out of the game. Warhammer 2 has awesome battles and by far the most variety in its factions and armies. But it comes at a cost. Siege battles are straight garbage and diplomacy is also atrocious, so if those two things in particular are things that might interest you, just keep that in mind. Plus, it's a fantasy setting, so if you want a historical one you'd obviously pick something else. Three Kingdoms meanwhile has a much more engaging diplomacy system, but I know a lot of people aren't too keen on the actual battles. And obviously it lacks the variety only Warhammer can bring. Rome 1 is great but very dated. Medieval 2 is the same, though probably holds up a lot better. And both have a ton of mods. Shogun 2 is a great place to start as well. It bridges the gap nicely between new and old Total War in my opinion. Ultimately though, choose whatever setting and era looks the most interesting. --- Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi <sneaky beeping> ... Copied to Clipboard!

@CommunismFTWYeah you can Auto Resolve everything. However, the Auto Resolve is sometimes really terrible. Warhammer 2 auto resolve for example is a pretty bad. Rome 2's was as well, though I think that may have been fixed at some point. --- Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi <sneaky beeping> ... Copied to Clipboard!
