I've been thinking of making a sidegrade from my Oneplus 7T to the 7 Pro. Spec wise it isn't that much different but my biggest want in getting it is due to the slightly better resolution and the screen being fully uninterrupted. No notch. No punch hold camera. Just a pop up selfie camera on top and I never take selfies and it kinda feels good for security. The site I'm thinking of getting it from (backmarket) has reviews that seem reputable and they give a free 1 year warranty for the refurbished phone.

@pinky0926 I think I remember you bought a refurbished phone before right? How did it hold up?

The cost saving is significant and paying for it upfront is a huge weight of your mind. Like for me it's just $15 a month for my phone, no contract. So whereas most people are paying $60 a month for a phone that they don't actually own and will cost them maybe $2k by the time they're done with it, all while being tied into a 2 year contract...I think it's a much better option to go refurbished.

I will say though that the lack of support is annoying. I've had some general hardware issues that are not outside the realms of ordinary device wear and tear, but because I'm essentially free market there's not much option other than to hope the manufacturers warranty covers it. Like I can't just wander into the nearest samsung store and they'll fix it in 2 hours. That means being without a phone for like 3 weeks as it gets sent back to HQ, which is obviously unrealistic.

Get a certified refurb. I hope you don't have OCD, because I've had two now that both had huge deliberate scratch marks through the serial numbers (because they clearly swapped out the casing).

So if you do go down that path (and I still think its a good idea), I would factor in costs to repair and potentally keep in mind you may need like, $50-100 for a backup phone.

I literally only buy used phones. Used flagship phones from the previous year when I need a new phone, which is usually because the service is changing, or someone smashed my phone. I just make sure the phone is from a reputable seller with a clean ESN and is proven to be unlocked.

I've never had a long-term issue.

Thanks for the indepth guys. I'm getting one that's classed as 'Mint' from a seller with good reviews so it kinda puts my mind at ease. The only thing that bothers me would be the battery but the site says it's certified to have at least 80% of it's original capacity.

I bought a few from eBay and no issues. In fact, I just bought one on there not too long ago. Also, according to Reddit, you may want to avoid Backmarket and try eBay or Swappa.

Used phones can be great

But don't get a one plus. Those phones, compared to other flagships, are hot garbage.

I've had my 7T for a year and it's been amazing and I only paid $600 for it at launch lol. At the time it came out, it was one of the first phones to sport 90hz and 855+. Lasts me the whole day too and the 30w warp charging is frickin amazing. Cameras are average but I don't take lots of pics anyways.

Edit: like in comparison google just launched the Pixel 5 for $700. It might still be the top of the line as far as cameras go but it's only sporting a snapdragon 765g and it's smaller at 6 inches. The S10 FE is great value but as I stated, I want the full screen experience and I'm not a big fan of the Samsung UI

Well I ordered it. Hopefully everything goes swell and I'll be using it for the next 2 years hopefully. At least until some good ass phones with full uninterrupted screens and good value come out again

Damn wtf. I literally ordered the phone 2 days ago and it's already being delivered today. Came from NY too. That's some good service.

Well it came in. I freaked out because it said it was delivered and signed by my name when I did no such thing but they just put it in the mailbox and said I signed it. Prolly covid protocols.

Everything looks good so far. No scratches or defects like I ordered (Mint). Only thing that sucks just a little is that it's a T-Mobile unlocked device which wasn't listed. I can use it with my AT&T sim fine, just a little of the T-Mobile bloatware and the extra T-Mobile thing when booting up the phone. The curved edge screen is gonna take some getting used to but the uninterrupted screen is gorgeous. Plus I put it on max settings (90hz, max resolution) and the battery seems to be good so far. Gonna wait until later tomorrow to use it as my actual phone tho because the phone cases should come in tomorrow. I know no one really cares at this point but thanks for listening to my TED talk.
