Hence why I think it's a bad list. They make a list like this, it's open to opinions of others. Making a top rpg list without Chrono trigger is like making a top NBA players ever list without Michael Jordan.

At that point, we're going to have to paint a difference between modern RPGs and classic RPGs. Those games from the 80s and 90s are influential, but you would struggle to consider them the greatest RPGs.

When they're the best of the best, you maybe have a margin of 02% between the best and worst on that list. That's why you think they are random. The only one that caught me by surprise was South Park. A good RPG, but not one I would consider one of the best of all time. I would easily supplant that with something like Suikoden 2.

Another thing I noticed is that all of those games he mentioned can be played on PC. In fact, they're almost invariably better on PC. So, he's a young millennial who only really started gaming in the PS2 era.

You are assuming that it's his favorite game. Saying a list is bad doesn't mean his favorite game didn't make it. What if his actual favorite game made it on that list? What would be funny then since he still criticized the list?

I agree that separating into modern and classic RPGs would objective way to improve the accuracy of the statement "Greatest RPGs of all time", but they didn't, so they here we are. As for the distinction of "greatest" - how would you say these are "greater" than the early games? The video describes the games, but doesn't really say why they are "great"

'Greatest' is a superlative term that is pretty much formless by itself. By what metric is it considered greatest? The amount of acclaim it has? How good it is? How well they convey the aspect of role-playing?

Those games on his list are objectively all great games. The term 'Greatest' is purely subjective. I can only speak on games that I have personally played. I can say which ones I enjoy more than the others. As for Greatest? I'll leave that distinction to people who drive clicks for revenue.

I understand the rushed development, but these aspects were shit even when this game was new. But idk, maybe people have lower standards on those two fronts than me when it comes to RPGs. The writing really didn't make up for the bad to mediocre play experience. At least not enough to call it a top 10 RPG.

The game has aged like a fine wine. The bugs and janky gameplay were smoothed out within the first 18 months after release, which allowed the story to shine brighter. The short development cycle curtailed what would have been and even better RPG for my narrative standpoint, because they had to cut some content out of final production. The improvement of the shooting mechanics over Fallout 3 means you can actually play it like an FPS if you wanted to.

Honestly, I'm just shocked Skyrim isn't on the list.

Haha I can't say I agree. I played the game a couple years after release and found the play experience to be awful. Something you do your best forgive to enjoy the story.

Unlike pretty much every other game I've played on the list.

I did enjoy Fallout 3, but I can't play that game anymore and enjoy it. Fallout 3's appeal was that it was the very first WRPG I ever played. But that game aged like fine shit, and it was likely pretty mediocre in the first place. I just hadn't been exposed to the genre.
