Right now I give 9/11 the nod, but I could see the pandemic being more impactful once it's actually done.

Absolutely.

People were going to sporting events the week after 9/11. Besides TSA the pandemic has had far more long lasting effects on the average person

I don't know if comparing it to 9/11 is a good idea. They are two totally different kinds of events.
9/11 ended the "golden era" of 1997-2001. It had huge impacts on foreign policy and global dynamics that are still being felt 20 years later.

Coronavirus is a huge, destabilizing event, but not when it comes to foreign policy. We do not know the lasting impacts, it has at the very least caused an event that rivals the great depression of the late 20s and early 30s. Peoples lives have fundamentally changed, and as a population we are largely ignorant of this.

If we end up gong to war with China over this (which I doubt)? Yes it will be a huge fucking deal. If this, compounded with the Uyghur genocide (which we REALLY need to interfere with) cases a next wold war? Yea it's going to be a huge mess that is going to have a larger impact than 9/11 ever did.

The problem is so many people are ignorant of these changes. People should be afraid.

I'm on the fence between covid or 9/11 and the war on terror.

Its hard to judge it objectively since we're still in the middle of covid.

Unfortunately, outside of trump, nobody seems to even want to talk about how this is all china's fault anymore. You're called a racist if you even mention it on the world stage and organizations like the WHO are actively covering for them. Fuck china

Luckily I lived in really bad neighborhoods till I was 10 and people were getting shot/killed, beating each other up etc all over the place, so I didn't need to worry about nukes:)

Definitely. This has impacted the world.

Financially (economy)
Socially (no more large group gatherings)
Mentally (depression from staying locked up)
Physically (no longer able to visit the gym)

I gotta believe from an educational standpoint kids are not receiving the proper learning experience giving all the hiccups with remote learning. youll see life expectancy go down and theyll look back at this generation and say oh them was the Corona Kidz

Technically, the fall of the USSR was within my lifetime, but I was like 2.5 years old at the time and didn't really care. I'd call that a bigger deal. In terms of stuff I can remember, though, I think Covid's the most significant event. Citing 9/11 as a single, significant event kind of ignores that it was was really just one incident in the ongoing tensions between the Middle East and the west, which have been brewing pretty much since the Ottoman Empire fell. The subsequent "War on Terror" and ostensibly-unrelated war in Iraq were similarly just continued efforts to stabilize a very unstable region. 9/11 certainly wasn't trivial, and the social fallout (namely Islamophobic discrimination) can't be understated, but it alone did not directly cause the changes in the Middle East's political climate that followed it.

9/11 was huge, in the US. In most of the rest of the world, it was pretty quickly forgotten. Except, of course, in those countries we decided to invade after.

COVID-19 is hitting every single country on earth, and it keeps going and going and going, and probably will until well into next year at the least.

Yes. The War on Terror would be bigger if it weren't for how long it's lasted and how most people don't feel it affects them directly.
