It's completely out of control in Nebraska. The only county that has had zero new cases in the past 14 days is Banner County, population 690. New cases and daily hospitalizations are almost double what they were in late April/early May.

Seems like the places that are being hit now are the places that did not get hit during the spring and summer, specifically the less urban areas.

They were never really going to, and anyone who thought they were is either incredibly naive or kind of an idiot.

Until a successful vaccine exists to curtail it it was going to keep spreading no matter what anyone did, mostly because it's a new virus that humans completely lacked any resistance to.

The most we were ever really going to be able to do is flatten the curve and buy time until effective treatments and vaccines could be created, and keep hospitals from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of cases all at once. And cross our fingers and hope REALLY hard that it doesn't mutate into something worse before we can pin it down.

Which shows there wasn't really a "second wave", this is simply a continuation of the first one which we delayed via lockdown

I'd add to this that counting on a vaccine to be even effective as a flu shot in general in the near future is kinda wishful thinking. This is looking like something that is simply endemic at this point and we're just gonna have to learn to live with it. There's never been an effective vaccine for a coronavirus. The closest we have is the seasonal flu and its pretty hard to even quantify how effective that is from year to year

According to the CDC, the current only is only 30% effective. So probably less.

The main hope is that the mutation rate on this isn't as high as the traditional flu, or that if it does mutate quickly that it will eventually degrade to a level where it's less damaging (which tends to be the trend for disease in general, as they adapt to their new hosts). Or that immunity to one strain will increase resistance to future strains (which sort of happens with many diseases, and which is why things like the black plague and smallpox were always more damaging when they moved into new areas as opposed to ones where they'd be endemic for years).

Yeah this is a solid take

Masks and social distancing are likely here to stay until late 2021 at the earliest.

Meanwhile CT is one of biggest mask + distance states yet its cases are on the rise yet again. In fact, CT has seen the THIRD highest increase despite our dipshit fascist governor -- who had no business being governor and only won the primary because his opponent had literally been in jail for corruption -- locking the fuck down out of this state.

60% increase. 60%.

https://www.healthline.com/health-news/here-are-the-states-where-covid-19-is-increasing#Where-cases-are-the-highest

Where cases are the highest

In terms of percentage, Rhode Island showed the largest increase among states in new confirmed COVID-19 cases. It recorded 1,397 new positive tests this past week, a hike of 67 percent from the previous week, according to Reuters.
Washington was next with an increase of 63 percent to 5,166 new cases.
Right behind was Connecticut, which showed an increase of 60 percent with 2,792 new cases.
There are concerns about the continued increase of cases in the middle of the country.
Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana all reported increases of more than 30 percent.

No, you're a fucking moron.
I am terrified right now. In the past couple of weeks cases have more than doubled in Massachusetts. People are getting lazy and doing whatever the **** they want. We need a wakeup call right now before it's too late and people start dying again.

People in general, from what looks like to be a good majority and I'm looking at you Florida, seem to not care. Instead, let's do the complete opposite what everyone tells us to, and hitup that spring break. Gotta keep those beaches occupied as much as a wet hooked too.

You people need to fucking stop.
10m people catch the virus with 1% death rate => 100,000 people die.
100m people catch the virus with 1% death rate => 1,000,000 people die.

Its actually WAY worse than the flu. The flu doesnt kill this many this fast, or leave you with life long health problems.
