I've never got one nor have I had the flu aside from when swine flu was a thing and once as a teenager, but my grandma is insistent I get one this year. I really hate needles though. I know I probably should for like herd immunity or whatever, but are there any legitimate reasons to be hesitant aside from my dislike of needles?

as far as I know the flu shot has only minimal issues you may present some flu symptoms afterward but that's it.

  1. The arm where the injection is inserted gets sore after.
  2. The flu shot isn't completely accurate

Pros: You reduce your chance of getting the flu, as well as your chance of passing it on to somebody for whom it could be very serious

Cons: Time, money, probably some minor pain and maybe some cold-like symptoms for a short while afterward

If it hurts enough to cut into your video game time, either you're a complete wuss who is shut down by the average paper cut (in which case, whatever), or something's quite wrong and you should contact a doctor. It shouldn't be more than a dull ache and a bit of stiffness, not entirely unlike the day after you've done slightly more physical activity than you're used to.

Okay cool. I was just thinking of a shot I got in Sierra Leone that made my arm super sore for like two days. I think it was a rabies vaccine. They gave us a few different shots in one day though, so maybe it was just the amount. Also wasn't getting a well-balanced diet there, so that may have contributed. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think I actually did get the flu shot then.

Fun story: when the doctor was first giving me the rabies shot he didn't break my skin and squirted the vaccine all over my arm. He blamed me for having "thick skin" lol. The second one he JAMMED in (maybe also an explanation for the soreness).

Yea most people aren't gonna have any problem whatsoever. This year I wasn't even sore at all, last year it felt a little sore for a few hours, like someone had punched me in the arm or something.

But you'll also be microchipped by the government so they can inject 5G into you

I got mine last week. Not as well done as the last time I had a flu shot a number of years prior, the injection was more painful (moment of minor pain vs none at all), and there was redness and excess warmth in the area, no doubt a white blood cell feeding frenzy, that lasted a few days, and that was it.

I'm not anti-vax or anything, but the CDC basically throws a dart at the wall when they make the flu shot for the year. They've been way off the mark for a number of years. I'd rather not feel like I have a cold for 1-3 weeks to prevent the wrong flu entirely for the year.

Especially this year since we're all going to be wearing masks for as long as the cdc has the equivalent of Homeland Security's threat color scale until there's a vaccine, and for some strange reason every potential vaccine for Covid ends up shot down just before it goes to testing...

Pros- None
Cons- You are being injected with secret government mind control, mercury, arsenic, leprosy, ebola, sheep juice that will allow UFOs (otherwise known as the North commie Terrorist cannibal rapists aircrafts from behind the Iron sheet curtain, otherwise known as N.C.T.C.T.R.A.F.B.I.S.C) to have access to your phone number and intercept any of your pizza deliveries!
Do you know what that means?!
If you get the flu shot, you will never receive your pizzas!
But I see that I'm too late so have fun never having pizza again!

How was that for an anti-vax imitation?

I doubt it. i tend to run most head colds in a day or two. the last thing that really put me on my ass for a few days was that ugly norovirus that was going around 2 or 3 years ago. But i currently care for 2 elderly, immunocompromised parents (and i'm sure you'll find a way to think you're using that against me, but w/e). I end up taking the flu shot every year against my better judgement because of that, and it makes me feel like i have the "ketoflu" for like a week or two every time. in a perfect world, i'd rather just avoid that. most minor illnesses just join the chorus of aches ive learned to live with.

Considering theyre bigger than half or more of the other vehicles on the road and Im a good operator, Ill be fine. And yes I trust engineering and math because Ive seen seatbelts/straps work. On the other hand, Ive seen vaccines fail, as described in my earlier post, and I dont know whats in them.

A better comparison might be whether I should or shouldnt trust other drivers on the road, but even then, its not something Im injecting into my body that apparently can give you what its supposed to prevent.

Do you see any smallpox around here? I'm on a scavenger hunt but I can't seem to find any smallpox.

Vaccines have deceased preventable disease deaths by over 1 million lives each year in the US alone. That's at least fifty to one hundred fold more than seat belts, which save on the order of 10 to 20 thousand.

Your stance is based on an appeal to emotion and anecdotes, not based on an understanding the actual comprehensive data.

Yes. I also need food to survive.

You grow all of it? And you produce your own soil and fertilizer to grow them? And, of course, have sequenced and fully understood the genomes of all the seed lines you use, because you can't trust Big Gardening not to slip something in there to hurt you. And I'm sure you mined, smelted, and cast all the metals of all the tools you use in your kitchen and garden, because you wouldn't want Big Knife or Big Shovel contaminating your food with something. Better make sure you only cook over an open flame with wood from trees you grew yourself, too, because you can't trust Big Stove not to add some extra kind of evil energy to the heat.

Every single day, you trust an uncountable number of things you cannot ever hope to claim you have a comprehensive understanding of, many of which (the aforementioned truck and house examples) have far, FAR more potential to cause you harm than any vaccine. Singling vaccines out as something people shouldn't be taking without completely verifying and understanding their contents represents an utter failure to intelligently assess risk, and a complete lack of understanding of what everyday life actually entails.

For those who aren't aware, Zeb's anti-vax sentiments are rooted in the fact that his family doctor suggested that his childhood vaccines might have been related to him developing Asperger's syndrome, presumably because that diagnosis happened around the time that Wakefield's study was new and some doctors still thought it might have been valid. He's latched on to that explanation (Asperger's+primacy effect=pretty much exactly that), and basically refuses to accept any evidence, data, or line of reasoning that disagrees with it.
