I'm using the iStat Menus app to measure memory and cpu usage and I notice that if I use several programs like Word, One Note, Teams, Mail and Safari at the same time, memory usage goes up (normal), but when I quit (cmd Q, not just close) all these programs, the memory usage doesn't seem to drop that much.

When I reboot my Mac, the memory usage is at around 17-19%
When I have done some work with the programs I mentioned above, the memory usage can be at around 44-48%
After I quit all these programs and the only thing still running is finder, the memory usage is at 39-42%

I have checked activity monitor and windowserver and kernel_task uses some extra memory, but not that much

A quick reboot reduces memory usage to 17-19% again, it's just a weird solution.

Is this normal/as it should be? Like maybe it's built so that it only manages memory better when it exceeds a certain %? Or maybe iStat doesn't track the memory usage correctly?
