However, the value for "release date" will not change and stick. The other values will change. "release date" will not change, no matter what I do. It reverts back to its original value. The field for "year" will change.
Every time I save it just reverts back to normal. I wanted to find high quality audio albums for this band I like, but it was just easier to download the release "complete collection" which has every song they have ever done. I then want to break it up into the individual releases and give them their own folders and edit the id3 info to reflect it. So, for example, I want the songs from their first album to have its release year of 1997, not 2014 when the compilation was released. I just cannot edit the value in windows 10 explorer for the "release date" field. I click save, it thinks for a second, and the field is changed. However, when i exit that window and come back it reverts back to 2014. The other values do change and stick. This one doesn't. any idea why? ... Copied to Clipboard!

No clue, but I'd recommend trying to use some other software to edit the tags and see it that fixes it. Audacity is free and presumably has that functionality.
