What?

Yes, I did. My coworker who likes coins is retiring, and since he's given me things over time of equal or greater value, I decided to buy him the only two Washington quarters(1932-1998) he is missing. 1932 D and S. He has said he would never buy them, so I figure this would be an awesome gift for him.

Now, these aren't in great condition, but it completes his set. The reason these are worth so much(and good condition ones are well over a hundred bucks) is because of scarcity. the mint only made around 400,000 of each mint. The Philadelphia one, with no mint mark, has a mintage of 5 million so not super common but not super rare so that is like a 10 dollar coin or so.

I hope he likes them. He should.

Sounds like a healthy hobby. When I was a kid back before the internet and Pokemon, this was something I was interested in.

Normally you'd just call it "a half"

I think the most I've spent on quarters was $47.45 (with tax & shipping) for the 2020 America the Beautiful silver proof set direct from the US Mint. The 2011 and 2012 sets were $46.90 each. Each set has 5 quarters made of .999 silver. The current melt value of each set is $27.81, but their collectable value is much higher and will keep climbing.

I've never bought coins for myself, but that doesn't seem too terrible. They probably look super nice.

How many ounces of Ag is there in each coin?

The quarters are 6.343 grams, or about 0.224 ounces, each.

They're proof coins, so the blanks are polished and cleaned then double-struck with specially polished dies. This makes the design extremely sharp with a mirror-like background so they look really amazing. They're also never touched by human hands and are packed in a protective lens to preserve the finish.
