I don't know the first thing about kanji other than that direct Japanese translations are often complicated by them because they're ideograms and not like the English alphabet.

What I'm trying to do is use "jitsu" in the context of "honest / reality / truth" to loosely make a word meaning "true name."

But I'm not using the Japanese word for "name." I'd like to use "nym," which is more commonly found in "-onym" as a suffix.

So, would "jitsu" come before or after "nym," as in "nymjitsu" or "jitsunym," even though I guess it would be "jitsu-nym" since the only "jitsu-" example I can find is "jitsu-wa" which means "objective truth," I think.

I'm assuming the appropriate [as it can get] way to do this would be "jitsu-nym" but if someone saw "nymjitsu" would they recognize that as "true name" or something else entirely?

There's a good chance none of this makes sense. But I'm curious if someone with the linguistic knowledge could shed some light on it.

I'd go with jitsunym in your case. If you're just replacing with 'nym':

(meijitsu) means "in name and in reality"
(jitsumei) means "true name"
