I am absolutely terrible as impostor, have only been it like 4 times ever, and got paired up with Paul, who just started playing the game himself and didn't even know how to sabotage anything. I figured I was screwed, but I somehow was able kill 5 people by myself, and got a crewmate ejected at the end for the flawless victory against a bunch of b8 veterans, and I just cannot overstate how over the moon I am right now.

Totally made up for all the complete garbage help I provided when I was crewmate all night!

Played a couple games for the first time today. Very first game I roll Imposter and man did I suck. Almost threw the game as crewmate because I saw Black in the room with the body but then we both got scanned and Black died but the only other person left saw me get scanned. Seems pretty fun.

Plum are you in the b8 discord? We normally have someone put the private lobby code (It's 6 letters. The last one seems to always be Q. so something like SYTHAQ)

If your having trouble joining a lobby the correct problem shooting way to solve it is really dumb but.
1.Try a couple times
2.Change server to Asia/Europe then back to NA and try again
3.If that's not working try changing your name. (This almost always works for some reason.)

Man it sucks when you catch the first imposter, then find another body and you can't convince the one other guy left that it's not you and you pick right on the second imposter.

After thinking a bit, I think my problem with this game is my favorite part of social deduction games is motivation. Why did this person act the way they did and does it reveal their identity.

which is completely missing from among us because everyone has the same real or fake motivation of running around doing tasks.

You can sort of do that with people voting, though. Does this person have motivation to put suspicion on this person? Why do they suspect them? (Of course if you play with randoms sometimes you get trolls who just say random stuff and make the dumbest accusations and throw the game on purpose)

I think saying that's completely missing in Among Us is way off base. Tasks give players something to do to keep them moving them around, and to split the group up to create opportunities for the imposters. If you speedrun all your tasks, you'll be done them very quickly, but it also will isolate you from everyone else and make you an easy target for murder. As a result, players don't want to get picked off alone and instead spend a lot of time taking long detours or following other players around. This leads to suspicious behavior like watching what other players are doing. It creates plenty of space for weird actions that needs to be explained.

I do think tasks can be a bit awkward when it comes to faking. A newer player just doesn't know enough about the tasks to believably fake them, and even a pro imposter has a tough time fooling a crewmate that knows every task perfectly. But there's still a lot of room to maneuver for both sides.

This game is suddenly becoming not fun to play with strangers. Just had three rooms in a row with obvious hackers.

First room, the imp killed during meetings
Second room, the imp would kill just one person and end the game (despite there still being many more crewmates)
Third room, the hacker was able to end voting as soon as they voted, and systematically voted out the crew (incidentally they were not the imp)

I mean kind of? But two minutes is not long enough for that. And that's basically just mafia.

I feel like if I am playing a game where the fun part is the 2 minutes of mafia in between 7 minute random walking around I should just play mafia

I think that's the biggest flaw with the game. You need to find a group to play with. Otherwise you just get people outright quitting, people who troll, people who just don't pay much attention, etc... and it doesn't make for an engaging experience.

Replace this with "calculated observing" and you'll enjoy playing crewmate much more I think. The walking around is PART of the deception, and your observations of others can be just as useful as catching someone in the act.

"Orange just said he has 2 tasks left and they are both in Navigation, but in round 1 I saw orange standing around in navigation and it didn't look like he was doing any tasks."

"I saw Blue do a Download task, but he didn't go do the Upload task in Admin when the next round started".

"Yellow was standing in front of Simon Says (memory game) like he was doing it, but then he walked away after like 7 seconds. Simon says is much longer than that!"

"Purple was standing at Card Swipe for 5 seconds, but Card Swipe is a common task, and we don't have that task this round"

Yes when you are brand new you should just do tasks to learn them. But then tasks become second nature and your knowledge of tasks becomes ammunition for your observations to paint a damning picture of someone who isn't doing them or is pretending to do them wrong.

I mean a lot of that is random metagaming which reminds me of the oll time stamp argument in mafia. Needing to memorize exactly how long tasks should take so I can fake them or spot faking them better sounds like torture.
