I'm bummed I didn't win with this set, because it's easily the most fun I had with Hades. I got to Hades with 3 DDs (counting Lucky Tooth) and 1000 gold. Probably could have won, but I did some dumb things. I should have used Attack/Chill more and I probably should have went with Support Fire rather than Lightning Rod when I was given a choice. Ah well.

I thought you had to *keep* giving nectar to people to get more items. I have given Charon like 5 Nectar for nothing it seems like?

I maxed Charon first and as far as I can tell nothing happened after the first gift.

Only certain characters will gift you a second thing, Charons not one of them and even for those that are, it will take more than just giving them nectar

Escaped with the shield on my 22nd attempt. My special applied Doom, dash applied Chill, and I had upgraded Doom damage and enemies Decay when they are all chilled.

Seems like once you have Privileged Status, Demeter's dash is really good, because you can easily keep up an extra status effect with no additional investment and let your Attack or Special apply one of the poison or Doom effects

I made it to the final boss of Styx for the first time... got really close to beating him too!! I think I'll do better next time, since I'll have a better idea of what to expect.

I just beat Elysium for the first time, purely because I had a Zeus build that let lightning strike every second that I had a cast out, so I just ran around the map and never attacked the entire boss battle

Wow I just unlocked the hidden aspect for the rail gun and that thing SUCKS. Everything feels worse about it compared to rail gun

Once I got Zeus attack boon on that one and enemies were melting. That special is just bad though

the one time I used the secret rail I had a crazy good run, but I dont know if it was because of the gun or in spite of it

I remember I got two Daedalus upgrades that were specific to the beam. One made the damage scale faster, the other one I dont remember

That one has like five different exclusive upgrades. one makes the damage ramp up faster, one makes the beam startup faster, one makes it shoot three beams, one makes the special bigger and stronger, and there might be another I'm forgetting

The one I took, no more reloading but the damage doesn't ramp up anymore

Yes it was awful. Luckily I got freeze on my attack and the buff that deals a 100 damage blast when you get to 10 stacks. I also had Demeter's cast with the buff that causes it to freeze so there were a lot of explosions.

It was fun. Not great, but fun

Yeah the special is interesting but the damage it does is pitiful, even when it explodes, and enemies move around too much to be stuck next to it for very long anyway. Also it's way too hard to actually trigger it with your laser considering it auto tracks enemies. Easily my least favorite aspect in the game

Gilgamesh glove Im mixed on. Feels like at max level it could be great but at low level I would rather just take a different one.

The 4th shield aspect is my favorite shield, but I feel like all the non-Guan Yu ones are great, so I can't promise you'll feel the same.

Gilgamesh goes from 100 maim damage to 400, so upgrading does make a difference there (4th shield also benefits a ton from leveling it up.)

Spear special is my favorite. Get some Zeus lightning and the upgrade where it hits up to 7 enemies and you melt everything

I think the key to Guan Yu is sucking it up and taking the artifact that gives you +50 health. You also need to treat it like a bow and mainly use the fireworks special

I want to like the spear but it seems that trying to throw it too much or use midrange combat often ends up with me neglecting what's actually happening around my character and getting hit, which is strange because it should be keeping me out of trouble, and I don't have this problem with the bow or gun....

I cleared with the 4th shield last night on my first attempt with it. But the very first hammer upgrade I got was the bull rush turns into a projectile, so i just played it the exact same as the aspect of hera bow (which i love) and cleaned up

i cannot beat theseus ;_;

I'm pretty good at handling the minotaur and I try to take him down first, but Theseus and his goddamn spearthrow always hits me wherever I am, even if I'm watching him I usually can't tell exactly when he's going to let it go. Constantly moving doesn't seem to help since he tracks you and fires wherever you are, so you pretty much have to be dashing or deflecting right when he fires. I try to keep a pillar between us but somehow he still hits me often even when I think I'm in cover =(

I think i could beat him if I get to the 1v1 with a good amount of health but I'm always just scraping by once I finish off the minotaur.

one unintuituve thing you could try next time to get to 1v1 is actually get in theseus' grill and fight him in melee range. instead of throwing the spear he'll do a circle spin attack with a windup, which is surprisingly easy to dash through, and then you get free time to hit him.

aside from that, you'll eventually get a hang on when to dodge the spear. I kinda find myself just constantly dashing once the reticle on me turns red (rather than pink while its being set up) and it seems to have a good dodge rate. I also always dash in one direction rather than back and forth, dunno if you were doing that.

I use the Twin Fists the most and this is almost always what I do with them.

Man I really don't get the Shield. Mainly like, what all can you block? Standing still and blocking feels so unnatural to me.

Also, any advice with the Bull Rush? Should I be using that a lot or is it more of a niche thing?

Any good Boons for the Shield in general?

you can block anything that hits you from the front. not explosions that cover an area like the pot that throws mines or bombs in chambers, but anything else is fair game (correct me if im wrong here)

when you unlock other aspects bull rush has a lot more use but with the default it lets you reposition to another side so you don't get flanked/surrounded cause then blocking wont help obviously. also you can get hammers to buff the bull rush in different ways to make it more useful

as for boons for first shield, neptune stuff is pretty good as you can easily dash strike spam stuff into walls and destroy them. athena's divine dash so you can reflect anything with dash if you're not already blocking

8th run, got to final boss. I didn't think I had such an OP combo with the bow (chain shot + flurry shot) but it worked really damn well. I had a lot of Aphrodite & Artemis, which would have synergized well if the crits actually worked. But even the cast was only 10% crit so it was rare. Also had the Ares 200% damage after kill, which is def my favorite for the bow.

I didn't melt the zone 3 boss, but I did handle them pretty well. I went after the melee one first which helped, since it's much easier to 1:1 the other. Didn't have much trouble after that or with the 1st phase of the final boss, but I did lose my death defiance there and getting hit towards the end. Got about halfway through 2nd phase while taking little damage, but still died. Sucks because if I had 1 more death defiance I definitely would've won. That's what really annoys me about these roguelites.

Got to the final boss for the second time. I wasted me revives on the first phase, that sucked. I feel like I'm panicking and running around to destroy the fireballs, which causes me to not focus on anything else.

Yesterday, a friend of mine started streaming and as he entered asphodel, i joked I'M GONNA RACE YOU and started a new run with the hidden sword aspect

very first room I get the +300% armor damage hammer, and a +75% attack damage chaos soon after that. I took the lambent plume and just ran through the game. I cleared like seconds before him with a run time of 15:11.32

What are some tips to doing a faster run? I feel like mine take ~30 mins and that's just to die in Elysium. Had the same problem in Necrodancer.

If you love giant damage numbers you cant go wrong with that hidden sword aspect

To go faster you need to prioritize damage over defense. Best way to do this is to stack lots of damage modifiers on a single thing (Attack, Special, or Cast, or even Dash in certain circumstances), take advantage of the damage boost from putting your Cast in an enemy, get Privileged Status running if youve got Boons that make that easy, use Chaos boons to boost damage, etc. youre still early so youve probably also got a lot of boons to discover and synergies to learn. The keepsakes that let you manipulate which god youre going to meet next are way more useful than you might think for making the exact build you want. Is that 30 minutes in-game time, or real time? That seems reasonable for how long it takes to get to Elysium for most players in real time
