I'm up to six clears now with four weapons, Heat 1 on bow and sword.

I noticed the update changed some of the contractor prices. The second treasure trove upgrade went from 600 gems down to 500, but the one for getting gems from boss fights went from 3 diamonds up to 4.

Got to Elysium on my 6th run or so. Still mainly using the bow because it's really easy to avoid damage. Just got the shield though so I'll try that out.

out of curiousity I checked and the max heat possible is 63 (well, possible to choose, not necessarily possible to win). So this is only half that! No big deal.

Got to the Elysium boss with the shield. Having both melee and range is awesome. I had a super OP combo from the beginning with Doom on the throw which let me cheese, carried me pretty far. But the Elysium boss was just impossible, so much HP. Not sure what to do there other than just chip away Dark Souls style.

Most Elysium boss attacks are either telegraphed or follow a predictable pattern, so hit and run definitely works. Especially with shield where you can just block

Man I lost against Meg like two or three more times then went to inferno land. I felt like I was taking damage non stop from all the fire and ranged attacks everything was doing and would immediately get sent home but somehow I one shot the hydra ez

I like the abilities I have right now. My bow stacks a dot, my volley dooms, my cast is a short range mega nuke, and my dash reverses damage. im just dashing away from everything and leaving my dots on them. feels good.

Cly, you sound like me at the same point. It's also refreshing to hear from someone who hasn't blown way past where I am now.

Completed run #25 last night. Had my first good fight against Elysium's boss. First time I really utilized the shield well. (Tying the block to a charge attack is a really bizarre choice IMO.) Then I finally decided to pay for an alt form for a weapon and used the bow's homing missiles to plow through everything en route to the dynamic duo. Just narrowly lost. I prioritized boons far more heavily than I had in the past, and while I'm not sure if that made me more effective in combat, I got my first duo boons yesterday, 2 on the first run and 1 on the second.

Side question: How do you unlock fishing? I've seen people mention it here and elsewhere, and from what I understand, I have to buy something from the house contractor, but I searched the entire list of purchases and didn't see the rod anywhere.

It's obvious there must be ways to get diamonds or titan's blood, but I've been steadfastly refusing to spend mine from the boss kills until I know I can get more. I had the impression fishing was the solution to that.

I thought i would like the homing special aspect bow too, but then i tried the aspect of hera and learned how it is so freaking good. loading triple casts into your next attack is great

Fishing is 1 way to get more titan's blood and diamonds but the game has another system called heat that lets you get more. Basically once you escape for the first time you can add a heat modifier to your next run for that weapon. Things like "enemies have 15% more health" will give you 1 heat and there are modifiers to get up to like 55 or something.

Beating a boss with 1 heat will reward another titan's blood or diamond. Then once you escape with 1 heat, beating a boss with 2 heat will reward it again. Each weapon has separate heat values too

to slightly expand upon this, you can't skip bounties - so if you decide to run with 10 heat because thats more fun for you, you'll keep getting the titans blood/diamond/ambrosia every run until you clear 10 times (once for heats 1, 2, 3, etc) even though you had more heat. So once you get more comfortable with the game, I'd recommend trying out some heat modifiers even if you don't need it for bounties, since it'll just be more fun.

in particular, i highly encourage extreme measures.

I always start with Extreme Measures, once you get a few runs with each bosss new stuff you know how to deal with it and it basically becomes free heat. (I actually think one of them is easier with it than without)

Middle Management is also pretty simple to get used to since it only affects a few specific rooms in the game

I think the 9 minute (and even 7 minute) timers are pretty easy too. I've never even been close to running out of time with those

i think the +15% health is better than the shield. If you get a really high damage setup you can still kill a +15% health enemy in one hit, but a shielded one will always require two. I guess toward the end of the game thats less and less possible to begin with though

Hey guys, is my image here of the game right?

You start the game and play through it and maybe struggle a bit because you have a lot to learn. As you get better, you can clear through and maybe use different weapons. Eventually, once you've figured out how to deal with all of the enemies and areas and how to use each weapon, you start using mechanics to up the difficulty to keep up the challenge as your own skill and upgrades increase. You keep increasing the challenge to keep the game engaging. I think Heat and Hell Mode are both part of this?

My buddy that got the game with me started on Hell Mode because he's such a cool guy tough gamer. From what I understand that puts like 5 difficulty modifiers onto the game to make it tougher, and once you beat Hell Mode like that, you can make those modifiers even tougher (IE it applies -25% healing but you can crank that up all the way to -100% healing)

So it seems to me that, while starting at Hell Mode is probably valid, it's kinda just putting himself at a further stage of that gameplay loop to start with?

We loosely compete at games but our experiences here aren't directly comparable since he's on a harder difficulty, but I don't think it makes sense to me to jump ahead to Hell Mode right now since that seems like a logical progression I'll take later.

I think 9 minutes is extremely easy at low heat but dangerous in combinations. I didnt take it for my 16 heat run for example.

Had a bow run today with triple shot and explosive shot. I was using the bow that lets you load your cast and it was actually getting loaded into all 3 shots. I had a poseidon buff on cast and it was pretty much shredding everything. It's a bummer I only had 2 heat for that run because I think I could have maxed it out.

Yeah, Hell Mode only does one thing that you cant already do in the normal mode once youve beaten the game once. The only exclusive thing it does is remove the temporary invulnerability you get when you take a bunch of damage at once

Ok so I totally didn't realize the shield could block and I was really confused why it was a shield. I was using it as pure offense.

Also realized how important the hammer is. It's like 5x as important as a typical boon.

This is the truth and you're also limited to 2 max hammers per run. It stops spawning after you pick up 2

I got that one time with the rail and it gave me the cluster bomb and the thing that changes the bomb to a rocket and it was the most over powered experience Ive had. 5 point blank rockets is a lot of damage.

I'm surprised you can even get more than 1 hammer. That's honestly the most fun I think I'll have, trying all those combinations.

I notice nobody said anything when I made the same remark earlier. But yeah, you get used to the idea of the attacks Skelly prompts you on being the entire move set, and then you realize that the shield can block. (It does actually say this on Skelly's checklist, but it's not like you could actually use it to block anything.)

There is an unlimited supply of it, but it does depend on how good you've gotten. It will be limited until you're able to beat the final boss at least once.

Finally got past Elysium with a stupidly OP spear build where I just held down the attack button and lightning damage fried everything. The boss didn't completely melt, but I was able to get by with a death defiance in the bank. Had I known what I was getting myself into beyond, I probably would have had my first clear, too. But at least now I can get a fishing rod and Demeter boons. (This was run #27.)

Finally beat Hades at run 38 with the Fists. I had chain lightning casts with the Hermes upgrades that has them falling out of foes faster. I also got lucky and had +1 cast. I can definitely see myself getting better. I don't even die on the Elysium boss anymore.

I got the aspect for the fists and turns your special into a magnetizing attack... seems good to me! Basically gives the fists a range attack.

Yeah it's incredible how much better at this game you can get. I look back at my post where I was bitching about the Elysium boss and now I can do it without breaking a sweat

Got my first clear with the shield. I was playing super sloppy, and lost all my defiances (and had zero opportunity the whole run to get any of them back). But I did have a slew of heart chambers in Elysium and Styx, so I ended up with 365 health, and it was enough to win in the end. Also that run I was able to buy a titan blood and finished up two prophecies, so it would've been a good run regardless. It was also the first time I had to go through every chamber in Styx before finding the sack.
