Yeah, I'm probably just going to hop on once or twice more, on XI, to hand 9mil gil to someone that needs it, and call it quits on that game for good, totally on my terms with so much done I'd never gotten to do the first time I'd played the game.

Anywho. XIV! I managed to beat Unreal Titan, so I now have 50 tokens... out of the 600 I need for one of those recolored mounts.

I have also decided to start grinding Mentor Roulette. At the rate I am going, and assuming I get my main jobs to 90 asap in the next expansion, I should get the Astrope mount by early April of 2022. I probably will not maintain this current rate I'm doing, but yeah... That's a thing. In the time I work on this, I will also pop the achievements Lifer III (10k dungeon/raid instances) and Tank You, Warrior IV (500 roulettes or StB/ShB endgame instances as War).

I did not. Some of the people were cool and nice to chat with from time to time, but the game was outright anti-fun in so many conceivable, infuriating ways, because I could see how a lot of things could and should have worked, but didn't.

Oh yeah we cleared e11s last night! I got the weapon upgrade Ester so now I have a 530 weapon :D

i've never really seen screenshots of final fantasy xiv... looks complicated. do you play that with a mouse or something with all the little buttons? I can't even imagine remembering what all of those symbols are without names

Oh I set up my bars so all related skills/spells are together. For instance, the bottom bar, that's all my combos and weapon skills. Then above that is all my tanking skills. Then the top right corner is misc stuff that will come up like once in a fight or a dungeon.

I usually have my hotbars set up so the damaging abilities are grouped on the left, cooldowns toward the left except for a few specific buttons reserved for Limit Breaks, sprinting, and mounts, and the middle is whatever depending on the job.

Playing on a SSD helps, especially once you get to 50+, because of load times.

Your starting city, and thus starting quest line, will depend on your first combat class. You can unlock and change classes later, and swear a sort of loyalty to one of the three major cities' Grand Companies later one (something that, in itself, can be changed if you see fit), but those quests leading up to level 10 or so will be locked to your first city. Neither of them matter, really, though I liked Limsa's story more of the trio. So what I am trying to get at is pick the class/job you think will interest you most.

The first 30-40 levels are slow in terms of combat because of that 2.45 second global cooldown on abilities. On one hand, use this time to learn and understand combos for a basic rotation, which you can figure out by reading the abilities' tool tips, but on the other you receive additional abilities you can weave into those global cooldowns the more you level up, many with their own cooldowns or conditions you'll learn as you go. I wish early levels in FFXIV were better designed in regards to patience versus handholding, but it's technically fine now.

Dungeons drop gear you will need as you are leveling up. From Halatali (level 21) and up, you may wish to do one or two runs per dungeon to make sure you have what you need, or you can buy weapons and gear. Acquire social connections with crafters like myself, and gear can be made at no charge instead. xD

Should you wish to do Thaumaturge/Black Mage or Conjuror/White Mage, be warned that wands and cudgels are garbage, and the shields those classes can wear pre-50 aren't worth it. Staves are the way to go with them.

Find a social circle willing to help you through various story content so you aren't waiting for stuff . . . though healers and tanks tend to not wait for very long. lol

Take in the scenery and music every once in a while. It's one thing to run through the quests at neckbreak speeds, but take a breath or two to enjoy the world's design, despite there being little for combat classes outside of fetch quests, endgame hunts, treasure maps, and FATEs (interactive events that help with leveling up). Some of the flavor text in quests, FATEs, Leve quests, et cetera, tend to be great as well.

Speaking of quests, the ones you want to look out for are either blue icon ones, for unlocking content or features, and meteor-shaped bubbles for continuing the main story. Seriously - the main story. You can maybe see the ARR zones without going further than being let back out of town on the main scenario, but the story bars just about everything including those unlock quests at various points. Don't worry too much about the other quests unless you feel a completionist streak coming on. haha

It's too bad work has been so mentally exhausting. I've been trying to commission an artistic friend to do a portrait of two of my characters, and my boyfriend's character, together. The first attempt, via Paypal, failed about a month ago due to my friend being in another country and Paypal being utterly ANTI-helpful with this, so I finally made another attempt with a separate thing today. Hopefully it goes through just fine, because a family portrait of Aster, P'rioka, and our daughter Lyra, is past due. It's also my first art commission based on any game, let alone FFXIV.

Did Savage reclears last night, and stepped into 12s for about 20 minutes. This fight is nuts already. I have a feeling it's going to be like deltascape where the door fight is the real challenge. But tonight we're going to prog 12s for real! I'm ilvl 518. Oh and I was parsing purple all night :D So I assume the dps check, which I hear is stupid tight on top of all the crazy mechanics won't be an issue.

Uh huh, and one more thing, though this is more of me trying to relieve a nuisance of mine as I try to do my Mentor Roulettes:

Using the Party Finder for any Extreme or Savage content, or even the Coil raids, will be a big help for you. So will looking up guides on any harder fights before going into them, but learning content is better for everyone when you are in a dedicated group that knows what they're getting into in terms of setting aside time and energy. Some of the endgame content isn't really bad, per se, but too many people just either expect carries, expect their mistakes to not matter so much, or have difficulty grasping a mechanic or two. So if you want to run something like this, use the Party Finder for it. For basically anything else, grab a friend who is a tank or healer, unless you are one yourself, and queue into it like normal. =)

I could tell you, but I suppose you want to find out for yourself. =)

Anywho, I have ventured into the rabbit hole and invested in a third retainer for crafting storage purposes. I could have used one of Lyra's retainers, but it would have been inconvenient, not to mention there's no telling how quickly I'd use up this space with a secret-ish project I am working on now. So Aster's third retainer is a Miqo named Levin-dere.

My main character is now at 17,520 achievement points. Among the more recent achievements, I've earned the one for running Mentor Roulette 200+ times. 1800 runs to go until Astrope is mine, so please look forward to April . . . of 2022. lol

Only 35 more runs on my PLD to get my Battle Lion which is my last tank mount until they add more.

I should try farming for a mount one of these days. Not sure which ones are easiest though.

Mentor Roulette tonight is making me cringe as a competent healer. I got Malikah's Well in progress by 23 minutes because of a bad healer who did little else besides lying about what they or the tank were doing, and then I got Ghimlyt Dark in progress by 58 minutes, because the rest of the party was new and needed guidance, which the healer before me was not giving (so I walked them through the final battle). Oy...

ARR primals unsynced are fairly easy. Easier to solo on some jobs than others, even. That's six ponies, plus Nightmare (super rare from Gar/Titan/Ifrit). Get the six, and you get the Kirin in Mor Dhona afterward.

I farmed O4S unsynced yeaterday and got the mount. It was dun cause I still needed to learn the mechs to a degree.

o4s was nuts when it was current, especially the first fight. Second fight not so much except for a couple mechanics. Its just the second fight is 13 minutes long.

We passed phase 1 and started progging phase 2! Made it through the first relativity!

One thing I love about XIV over XI is you don't have to go hunting for the same Key Item all over again each and every time you fail a fight in an instance. Gods, I hate to think of the impact such a limitation might have on XIV.

Also, eliminate that KI hunt, as well as the daily limit in some cases, and some of the world exploration in XI (like 5-10%) goes bye-bye. <_<

So close to my BiS. Bought the tome gloves this morning, and won a twine in raid so I upgraded the boots. Just need to upgrade the gloves, earings and ring and get the weapon and I'm BiS! \o/ Also I feel really good about being able to clear 12s this week.

I'm 240 runs into Mentor Roulette as well.

Soon this week I need to do some crafting for leves I hadn't done before for a couple achievements, some triple triad for a few cards I'm missing, some runs of Eden 12 (normal) for achievements and triple triad card, and hopefully some crafting and gathering in Firmament (post-rankings) for scrips for a few purchases.

Also Kupo of Fortune. I want a prize from it for my alt Lyra. I will need to find a suitable greatsword to go with the casual attire as well, but that has time to it. xD

just got through reisenjima helms again in ffxi, so after going back to kill the easier t1-t3 mobs ill have marsyas to finish off brd and be able to sing honor march now. /flex

I'm once again big fishing in XIV. That is always such . . . a thing. Even with a good tracker for the times and weather (as well as best bait to use).

Finished my last bard item I needed with the aeonic! 4 rema brd now i'm useful :o

The new 24-man raid via Bozja content is fun, but I will wait a day or two to run it again so more people know how to do it. In the meantime, I have things to do, including grinding out more stuff in the Southern Front and maybe finally going for those duel achievements.

My BLU is now level 70 and has only one of the new spells as of yet. I mean to get the others soon, which means beating the new Masked Carnival stages. In accordance with being a hard-to-satisfy showoff, this means I will aim for the optional achievement at the end of the stages again. For that matter I've been meaning to go back and retry the Azulmagia one.

Also: I need to gear up my BLU, and so much of the tome or raid gear is unimpressive in terms of substats. Crit and DH are nice. SpS is nice. There's too much Det. I blame Velo.

Thanks to both Bozja and Blue Mage content, I acquired some more triple triad cards tonight. As a result, I've passed the 300 mark, netting me an achievement and another rare card (that I'll never use). So I may work on the remaining cards over time before any more come out, so I might hit the next achievement in version 6.x of the game.

Combat relics are up to i515 with customization involved, it would appear. So I will be doing the latter part for the jobs I play most (Whm, War, Brd, Mch, and maybe Drk). The gathering relics are also upgraded, and can finally beat the perception stat on my mainhand tools, even if said tools have one meld slot remaining. I have not checked the stats on the crafting mainhands, but I am hoping the Control is good before I bother with those tools. Otherwise they can wait until I'm in the mood for yet more achievements. lol
