It will, of course, remain to be seen if they do a good job making this, but I have to say that the idea of using a Hyrule Warriors game to tell the story of the Calamity is bloody brilliant. The whole large-scale warfare thing really wouldn't have translated well into a regular Zelda game (nor into one like BotW), but it's practically tailor-made for a Warriors one, especially with the number of major characters that participated in the battles. This works so perfectly that I almost have to wonder if they deliberately set it up with how they presented the story in BotW. My interest is very much piqued.

It's a pretty good time. It does fall into the typical Warriors game button mashing, so if that's not your thing, it might not hold your interest, but if you like that, it does a very good job of filling the niche.

Zelda and Musou are my 2nd and 3rd favorite series, so I absolutely loved HW! Bought it twice, in fact, and put in like 1000 hours between the two.
This looks like it won't be the typical musou expanded sequel at all, but a strictly new story and limited to BotW universe and characters, so that's really cool.
It is funny after like two underwhelming Directs in a row, they decide to announce this on its own out of the blue, instead of using it to cap off a Direct.
And yes! Urbosa will be playable!
...I hope the Guardians aren't treated as giant boss monsters.

I wanted a Zelda/Musou crossover for a long time before HW. My original idea was the Imprisoning War from Link to the Past's backstory being an ideal setting for such a game. But OoT completely butchered that tale and it seems to have become the dominant story for the "Zelda timeline". So this is a very similar concept and the closest we'll ever get to that.

Watch a Let's Play or just the cut scenes on youtube if the expanded story is all you care about.
But it's gonna be a great game, so I don't know why you wouldn't want to play it.

Im super excited and cant stop thinking about the game. It sucks that I have to wait until November 20th...

And now HW2, and it's a canon prequel to BotW

2020's been a pretty solid year for me, gaming-wise.

Loved the original Hyrule Warriors and loved Breath of the Wild so this will be a day 1 buy for me. Really hyped that it's going to be canon to the story as well. Now I'm tempted to re-buy HW Definitive Edition for the switch to hold me over until this comes out.

I'm excited. I thought for sure the next Nintendo Warriors game would be Fire Emblem again. Glad to see they're going back to Zelda. I hope it's not just BotW though, I hope in the post game they introduce characters from other games like in the first HW. Like Skull Kid and Marin.

Maybe if you have HW on Switch, they let you import the characters from that and play them in the new stages on some sort of "Free Mode"?
Otherwise, I'd actually prefer having completely new content and focused on BotW than another crossover mish-mash. We already have HW1 for that.

Honestly, I'm not expecting this to have the same amount of content HW1 did.

From the looks of the trailer and their comments about the Zelda team working closely with Koei Tecmo, it seems like this would be a lot more focused on the whole story of the war, with not a lot of side stuff.

I'm definitely not expecting things like the Adventure Maps in HW1, but I am hoping for some good amount of other stuff to make up for it.

I think they would still add adventure maps. I don't see why they wouldn't... That's where you usually get extra hearts and weapons. And characters...

I mean, HW1's post-game stuff didn't depend on people surviving. It was all very much non-story content, involving characters that didn't even have a story presence and/or made absolutely no sense in the context in which they were presented. Adventure Mode was purely gameplay, with very little attention paid to canon or thematic accuracy except when it was needed for a specific challenge (which rarely had anything to do with the game's main story). To that end, everybody dying shouldn't impact it too much.
