Admiral was a racist moderator on this site for many years.

He constantly trolled and race baited, laughed at poor black people being priced out of their homes due to gentrification, said people with a certain skin color had natural "predispositions," etc.

He would occasionally get moderated for it too, and people wondered why he was allowed to be a mod.

One day he pushed the envelope too far, and his moderator status was revoked.

After that, he went off the deep end, started dog whistling more and more, laid his racist cards on the table more and more..

He spent months at Warned, Suspended, or Purgatory, but the admins would just never ban him... probably out of a sense of loyalty for the time he spent as moderator, or some stupid respect for his high Karma account, or something.

It took years, but eventually the banhammer came down. He hasn't been seen since.

Some people claim he still posts here on an alt, but I doubt it's true

I think Admiral kept that facet of his personality hidden during his run-up to Lead Mod. He was always pretty bad, but it was a while before he really started to become notorious.

I don't blame SBallen for having Admiral as Lead Mod for a time. Admins aren't psychic, and they aren't infallible... Admiral was a wolf in sheep's clothing, and he slipped through. What matters is, he was demodded in the end.

What I do blame SBallen for, was letting Admiral run amok on this site for literally years before he banned him. That was infuriating and unpardonable.

And the twists of logic the admins used to justify his light punishments were so dumb. "Oh, we could ban him, but we don't actually think banning people is effective due to [insert reason here]" -- VPNs, alt accounts, shared accounts, whatever the excuse of the day was... Yeah, that's really a reason for allowing a racist clown like Admiral to continue to shitpost, troll, and recruit other scumbags to his cult.

Between 2014 and 2016, this board became a mini alt-right outpost... GamerGate happened in 2014, which got a lot of play on gaming forums, and I think it was basically a gateway to the alt-right. Racism was constantly flying, against black people (BLM was really controversial at the time), and also against refugees and immigrants (European refugee crisis was in full swing). Admiral was one of the main perpetrators... Mods clamped down on the really egregious shit, but then there were the topics with coded racism that would fly by, like the four or five topics a day highlighting some crime a black person had done and a topic title that said, "Look at what this THUG did." One time, I posted a "Look at what this THUG did" topic with a white criminal just to throw it back the other way, and Admiral was bold enough to come into the topic and say, "That's not a thug."

A lot of good posters got driven out... I myself pulled all my FAQs and reviews down and quit for a couple years out of protest. This place seems better now, maybe because of changes in policy or just because that moment in time has passed, but that's basically the Admiral story.
