I realize that I don't remember any of the songs from Frozen 2. Was that soundtrack that forgettable? Or was just the movie in general that lackluster and overshadowed by Frozen 1?

Is it on par with like Moana and Tangled? Or is it just so-so?

The movie is good and the soundtrack is good, but none of the songs really stand out like Let it Go (except this one of course) and the story is more personal.

There's no real villain Alive at least,

So-so. It's different than the traditional Disney princess plot, but not necessarily in a good way.

Tangled > Frozen > Moana = Frozen 2?

I dunno, what I liked about Moana more than anything was the scenery

As for me, I'm firmly in the camp of Frozen > Moana > Tangled >= Frozen 2

Moana was incredible, although a lot of that just came from the soundtrack. Even without the soundtrack, Frozen would have been a great film (and one or the two songs actually hurt it).

I kinda watched Frozen 1 & 2 either back to back or on adjacent days. (And, despite trying to avoid the music before watching the film, I didn't realize how much of the soundtrack I had heard beforehand -- "Love is an Open Door", "Summer", etc; I think the only one I mostly avoided was "Let It Go", although I still had heard at least half the song.) I loved the first film. After watching the second, I was thinking I'd still like to see a third... but the more and more I've thought about Frozen 2, the more it just seems kinda mediocre. A lot of my big issues with it were things I thought about as the film was going on, including the blatantly transparent parallels between the kingdom's relationship with the tribe and American colonialism which simplify things to an insulting degree and naturally make Arendale 100% in the wrong as well as the overall portrayal of the tribes which made James Cameron's Avatar seem a bit less borderline offensive.

To be fair, Frozen 1 didn't reveal that its true villain until the final act, even if it had some minor antagonists early on

Yeah frozen 2 wasn't horrid but it wasn't in the same catagory as Frozen/Tangled/Moana.

All 3 of them rocked, and are some of my fav disney movies. Frozen 2 was forgettable. I don't remember any of the songs (even this one) at all. I don't even really remember the story that much (I could give a very general run down).

I've seen Frozen multiple times (by choice) and Moana twice as well (Tangled only once). Moana was cause I was a Nanny back then so I saw it like I don't know....FREAKING ALOT.

Frozen I was a teacher at the time and we even played the songs in the playground for the kids a few times etc lol.

I'd still suggest watchign 2, but it's totally free on disney so it's like 6$? I think for a month or you can get a free trial and watch that and a few other disney movies etc before canceling. Tots worth it.

Its unfocused as all hell and you can definitely tell that this movie was workshopped to hell and back.

Word on the street is that Disney didnt even know what they wanted to do with it until very very close to the end, which is why so many plot threads just fall flat (the ending) or are dropped entirely (Kristoff). That first trailer apparently came out before they even had the ending set in stone. They just wanted something to show people but didnt have an end goal in sight.

That makes a lot of sense. Even for Elsa and Anna, I would say there's no clear defining character arc or challenge to overcome. They just kind of do stuff and fight a bit and eventually it works out.

Well there is a clear defining character arc for Elsa. That's like, the whole climax of the movie. Anna is a part of that too but she takes a backseat until Elsa "dies" and she has to pull herself together.

I do wish Anna had also gotten powers.

Frozen 1 changed the story a lot during production

Wait, I'm confused, I thought your previous remarks about things changing during production were about Frozen 2 (which would make sense), not Frozen 1.

The movie goes back and forth on whether Elsa or Anna is behaving appropriately and at the end kind of goes "eh fuck it everything magically works out". They fight and defy each other repeatedly throughout the film and that never really resolves they both just do their own thing and then the story ends.

Elsa definitely has the beginning and ending of a character arc but I don't think the middle portion connects them, if that makes any sense.

Also tying everything to their parents retroactively feels contrived and overly convoluted as fuck but maybe that's just me. There's like three plot twists too many in that regard.

I did actually enjoy how the movie decided not to have a traditional antagonist. The trick they used in Frozen 1 has gotten old and arguably didn't even fit the first time.

Probably because the two stories are meant to parallel each other, with Elsa being too closed off and Anna being too willing to trust.

I have literally never heard that, not even as a rumor. Where does this claim come from?

EDIT: The only thing I could find is that the idea was floated during an early draft of the script, which is hardly "during production"
