So, today it came out that the Big10 and the Pac-12 intend to cancel the 2020 Fall seasons tomorrow.

Big Ten voting 12-2 against playing.

Nebraska and Iowa voted to play.

The ACC and Big12 were reportedly on the fence still and the SEC wants to play

ACC has just come out and say they intend to play also.

Now...

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29634231/scott-frost-says-nebraska-prepared-look-all-options-including-playing-big-ten

That would be crazy. Could this pandemic create realignment???

There is already a coronavirus topic but..
As a "team quarantine" guy I disagree with this
Halting the world for 2-3 months because a ongoing pandemic is one thing, halting the world for more than 6 months is a disaster
Time to return to normal, seriously

Play the fucking football. With a minimum crowd possible (2 meters distance whatever) or no crowd at all, but play the fucking football

There is literally not a worse possible scenario for bubbling than college football. The size of both rosters and personnel dwarf every other sport. But more importantly (and this applies to all college sports), thanks to the NCAA's own hardline stance on maintaining players as "student athletes", you can't completely quarantine from the rest of the students. It literally takes what could otherwise be relatively contained bubbles for universities and exposing them to each other on a large-scale and frequent basis.

Or to put it another way.

Disagree. All the nations that locked down until end time have propped back up as soon as they let up unless hit severely hard the first time. For example, New York is probably good now because they got blasted early, same with New Jersey.

We should see soon if they can salvage the season with the conferences left. Urban Meyer said playing football in the spring is basically a nonstarter for his program.

You can thank democrats for this. The president did attempt to halt correctly by blocking travel from China, but democrats were saying at the time that anyone worried about coronavirus was being a bigoted racist. "Go visit Chinatown!" Remember all that? This is on video at late as February 24th and can in no way be disputed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmllqkU6j2k

What also cannot be disputed in any way whatsoever are multiple officials in blue states ordering covid positive people to be taken in by nursing homes. The reason they did this is anyone's guess, but it's in the public record that this was done. I think these people are evil and wanted inflated death numbers, but again, the reason why is anyone's guess. I live in New Jersey, so we're well aware that Murphy, Cuomo, and all the rest gave this order.

As for college football, this is being done because the NCAA doesn't want players getting paid for their likeness -- protecting amateurism and adhering to Title 9, in other words. The data is in that athletes basically have a zero percent death rate (I think it actually is zero, double check me on that), and semi-bubble football players are less likely to get covid while with the team than they are in regular parts of the campus. You can't really control what college kids do normally, but you can put in very strict guidelines if they're with the team most of the day.

Point being that the NCAA knows this. What's happening here is a lack of leadership. College football takes in 3 billion dollars per year in TV revenue. Did you know that there is no one to actually oversee college football? In the NFL, the only people making financial decisions are the owners, the player's union, and the commissioner. That's it. In college football, does anyone even know?

I actually support this total shit show and canceling the season, because it's the one thing that will collapse the NCAA and Title 9 protections entirely. They are a massive waste of money, and we're seeing with covid all the unnecessary fat getting trimmed from a lot of institutions. All these sports on campus that make no money whatsoever and get funded by the football/basketball teams need to be done away with. No one cares about men's volleyball or women's field hockey. If people do, prove it. Let college athletes get paid for their likeness and let's see a male gymnast on campus get more money from their Youtube channel than Trevor Lawrence gets from his.

What this will ultimately lead to is the SEC and possibly ACC not giving a shit, playing anyway, and proving that college sports in no way needs the NCAA to function. Good. Let the other conferences dick around and screw up while the only programs that actually matter get shit done.

UNC and Notre Dame go to online classes (UNC for undergrads) after coronavirus clusters in their first weeks back.

Pittsburgh and Syracuse last week cancelled practices after concerns regarding it.

Oklahoma had 12 cases in their football program I believe.

However, the new saliva test has them feeling confident this season will still be a go.

Nick Saban comments that a spring league would be a JV league because all the top players would opt out to prepare for the draft instead.

In College Basketball news, Coach K says it is basically unfathomable to not have the tournament this year also. It accounts for 90% of the college basketball revenues and was a huge hit not having it last year.

Part of Fields argument was that it was safer for players to play than not play because if they do play, they will undergo regular testing and stricter guidelines / quarantine than if they don't play.

They weren't using names anyway. Randomizing player models (within reason) and jersey numbers shouldn't be a big deal. Hell, you can make that stuff customizable on the player's end.

Blitz was an extremely arcade-y take on football and had a competitor that did have NFL licensing. FIFA Street isn't a thing anymore, and they have FIFA licensing.

I probably get about 250k to 300k of business out of football season, but I expect to still make just less than half of that (maybe 100k-150k) and the SBA gave me a 150k EIDL loan so I should be fine. Thank you for the concern though!

Not sure how football and basketball funding other programs is in any way a secret, but at the same time cutting programs is in no way a new phenomenon either. It would probably normally be done more gradually without having to continue scholarships, of course, but I guarantee they've been on the potential chopping block long before now.
