As I always do, here's a summary of what I know about this stuff:

1) It's like an offline MMO
2) You can mix words to create randomly generated dungeons
3) One chick has a kickass white hat

I played a little of one of these games back on PS2 (forget which one), so I'm not a complete n00benheimer at this. There's 5-6 games in the collection, though, so let's see how far I get before getting bored.

I remember playing this one back on PS2 like a decade ago. It was pretty fun, but even like 12 year old me noticed how formulaic the not-story dungeons were. If you're looking for a rogue-like its not a great one, but I enjoyed this game overall.

Never played any of the others in the series, but I read the whole first collection of the manga, and **** gets crazy pretty quick. I'm talking your computer-generated Avatar actually being a conduit for magical monsters and **** but I don't think that shows up in the first game at least.

Also didn't know they remade these games - I might pick it up next time I see it on sale.

I don't think I played any of the GU games, but maybe the very first one. I dunno if that's the same, haha.

Also, I think I saw a .dot/hack anime at some point, but it was pretty stupid.

Not sure how long these are, but there's four in the collection, plus a "terminal disc" (whatever that is) and a parody mode. The last two don't seem to be the full breadth of the compilation, but the installation's about 33GB right now, so who knows.

I played the original vol 2 and 3. I want to eventually play them all. I had a lot of fun with them as a kid. I played only played part 1 in the GU series. I remember liking it though not as much as the first series. I recently bought recode and one of these days I'll play it.

The terminal disc was a special collector's item that came with a pre order statue of Haseo. Had I known that back then I'd have got it for sure, especially with the price it's up to.

Basically, as you progress through the game you unlock more stuff on it and the terminal disc contains a LOT of backstory stuff for some characters, the world, AND The World.

LMAO, my first party betrayed me. Good job hiding it in my forced tutorial, because it would've been way more obvious otherwise. Now my dude's spent eight months becoming a PKK (player killer...killer) lmao. I love all the high drama and acting like dying in a game is like cold-blooded murder. It makes more sense after the learning about the guildmate in a coma, though.

I wouldn't bother. You're not missing much and it'll just make you hate Haseo even more

the exp buff the game has makes it really not fun because you're perpetually overleveled and stomping everything

There's an EXP buff in normal mode? I saw there was a 'cheat mode' you can play under, but I didn't bother, since I'm assuming data from one game carries to the next, and cheating immediately would be lame as hell.

Getting a little tired of how douchey Haseo is, lmao. He's not even being catty or witty, like Ryudo in Grandia 2...just an impudent child. Hearing him call that pink-haired chick an old hag forty times just has you thinking, "I have to put up with this assclown for three more games? I hope he suffers."

I nabbed Last Recode in a Humble Bundle last year, and beat Vols 1-3. I burned myself out a bit (by completing the Book of 1000 in Vols 1 and 2), so I didn't play 4 (would anyone recommend doing so?).

I enjoyed my time with it, but it is a bit repetitive. Thankfully the battle system opens up a bit more in each Vol., and new areas, content, characters, etc. become available.

I wouldn't recommend filling out the Book of 1000 unless you want all achievements. If you go down that route, you need to max it in each Vol., which is a pain.

Yea it's how he is in the first two volumes. Once you get to third and fourth hes less whiny and more matured (I guess that's the right way to describe him?) Well trying to say he develops and more tolerable

Got some decent equipment, so I've been doing some arena stuff for the plot. Way more enjoyable than I thought it'd be, honestly. Also looking forward to the card minigame in volumes two and three. Doubt it'll be Triple Triad-tier enjoyment, but hope springs eternal.

I wonder if I should buy this super-expensive damage reduction ability.

I don't think natively, but I heard there are some mods for the pc version that you can tinker with for decrease exp gain and such. But it was one of the things I didn't like about the remaster, should have kept it normal, or gave us a option for increase exp if we wanted.

Awww damn I'm on PS4 only, thank you for the info

I think the exp gain is fine. There are still challenging fights here and there and the mooks you fight for 90% of the game are dealt with in a quick way that stops things from getting stale. These games are not ones I would wanna grind in

It's definitely not Triple Triad, as you don't really *play* it. You just create hands, then match-ups happen automatically when you're doing other things (or nothing). That then unlocks more cards to create better hands with. It's enjoyable enough.

Well, maybe the game'll still be fun.

Not sure how far I am through Rebirth, but I did some tournament stuff, got my avatar and nearly coma'd that annoying PKer, then went on a mission with Pi and Data Drained her. We besties now. Oh, and I got a new member: Piros the 3rd, some All Might dude with a heart full o' justice.

I used him a bit, just to level him up (he started at LV15 or something ridiculous), but I dunno if I'll keep using him regularly. The game has a way of making characters unavailable repeatedly, so there might be no sense in planning.

Thats weird. They auto-scaled with me. They never hit my level exactly but were always within 4-5, even if I never touched them.

I have the entire trilogy on the PS2 which I played, I liked it back then.

But for some reason, I could not get into the HD release. Funny how tastes change over time :P
