Of the traditional soups beef barely is probably my favorite (just not out of a can).
I like a good hot and sour soup and wonton soup as well.
Any steak + mushroom soup is usually delicious.

There were 2 soups that I would drive way out of my way for in my life.

The first soup was actually at a chain, called black angus, they had a steak soup that was so freaking
yummy, I would drive 30-40 mins each way to get it (not often, but I would do it). Years ago, they stopped having it,
and I found out by driving there with my friend and my wife, when I found out they said I looked soooo sad and dissapointed.

The other soup I did not have nearly as often, but it was a steak and wild mushroom soup they served at The Wolf Creek Inn, in the Shasta mountains. It was REALLY far out of the way, but me and my wife drove down there from Vancouver WA a few times (less than 10) and stayed there when we drove up to Vancouver from CA, and again when we drove back to CA. It was delicious.

I really like soup, but finding good soup is often very hard. I used to make my own, but I don't do that nearly as much anymore. I should though, it's healthy and yummy.

I make a killer potato soup

1 Tbsp butter
1 medium onion, diced (1 cup)
2 medium baking potatoes, peeled & diced (3 cups)
28 oz chicken broth (2 cans)
1/4 cup heavy cream

In a medium saucepan over high heat, melt butter. Add onions and stir often, until onions are translucent. Add potatoes and broth. Bring to a boil, cover pan and lower heat. Simmer until potatoes are soft, about 20 minutes. Stir in cream.

"Loaded" Baked Potato Soup
Prepare as above, but add sour cream, crumbled bacon, chives, and cheese as garnish.

"Chili Cheese Fries" Soup
Prepare as above, but stir in a can of chili and garnish with cheese and sour cream.

My favorite soup used to be something they sold at Polly's Pies. They called it Back Burner soup. It had vegetables, kidney beans, lentils, pasta, and ham and/or bacon and it tasted like it was the kind of soup that you simmer for a really long time (like on the back burner of the stove).

I used to get a bowl of the stuff whenever we went there when I was a kid. Haven't had it in probably 20+ years.

I used to have soaps from there, because they look so cool (wolves on em), I think I still have 1 soap left actually (they are the little circular glycerin type soaps. It's been over 20 years since I got them lol.

The Inn is awesome, my wife thought it was haunted (I don't believe in ghosts), but there were soooo many fireflies outside of the in, it was very magical. Tons of wolves around there as well. I highly recommend stopping there if you ever drive through the shasta mountains between Washington and Oregon/CA.

I won't go back without my wife though, it would be too sad to not have her with me.

Yum:)

Actually that reminds me, there is a beef wonton soup sold at only the emperors palace in Lacey WA (not the one in Olympia sadly), on Thursdays and Saturdays (as the soup of the day) which is delicious. I would go there just for that soup. IF yer even in Olympia/Lacy it's worth going for just the soup, but you can get a lunch special which comes with soup and upgrade it to a big bowl for $1 (which is a way better deal as a big bowl of soup costs as much as a lunch special.

I highly recommend the spicy beef lunch special with the big bowl of soup.

Of the poll options, Potato, so I voted that.

I feel like all of my actual favorite soups aren't really general styles...but just specific recipes. So I didn't really want to vote Other for that reason.

Beer Cheese Soup, Split Pea Soup, and Italian Wedding Soup are prob the closest 'general' styles I feel I could vote for.

A good Schezwan style soup meant to be served in noodles (and it has to be made with peppercorns to give it that extra zing) but I admit Minestrone and Clam Chowder are also really close for my favourite while French Onion is runner up.
