since TLoU was in some ways inspired by The Godfather series, iirc, I could see Ellie dying, but maybe as an old woman and/or sacrificing herself for the cure.

and since Abby and Lev presumably link up with the Fireflies, I could see their paths crossing again to make that happen.

I don't think that the Rattlers will show up again, though; they seem like a one-off band of assholes like David's cannibals from the first game.
