Anyway I want to comment on this-

I am personally not seeing a real downturn in the economy anything like this monstrous -33% number. The thing is, that GDP number is based on spending. Spending is down, but savings are up. Spending will come back in force in the future because people are going to find themselves with a lot of extra savings to spend this Christmas or next year.

I am going to start buying shares in companies that make luxury products in anticipation of the shopping that's going to happen when people realize they have an extra 10k sitting around from all the spending they didn't do this year.

People don't really seem to realize just how much money they were able to save.
Sure, many people didn't have a income at all, but what were they spending their money on during this time? rent and food
That's it.

During quarntine you do not need to-
Pay for a babysitter
Pay for car gas
Pay for classes for the kids or various other entertainment activites that kids want
Pay for outdoor restaurants
Pay for social activities with friends (bar pubs drinks etc)

Do you know how my credit card looked like in the months of April and May? only monthly payments that were something like...$100 total per month
I never spent so little ever since I was released from the army 9 years ago

The epidemic is not a good thing for the economy that's for sure. But it's negativity is super overrated

Let's say I want to start investing, but don't have a lot of current liquid money. Say I would invest $100 a month. What's a good cheap broker that I can use? If it matters, I'm Canadian.

What am I losing by not using a more expensive broker?

Economy got helped out by the boosted unemployment benefits that are set to expire this week. We're likely to see a reduced aid amount, so remains to be seen what the long-term effects are.

Also, Apple announcing a 4-for-1 stock split. Looks like it was done in the past? Anyone know what is the impetus for this?

The stock looks like a better deal to the retail investor at $100 than $400. Like, you don't see many stocks above $1000 right? So it's hard to imagine AAPL going to $1200. But it's easy to imagine it going from $100 to $300.

In accordance with my analysis on luxury goods, the next stocks that I want to buy are GPRO and DGE. High end cameras and high end alcohol.

Selling AMZN today, pocket a few hundred dollars, move on. If Prime Day was still Q3, I'd probably hang around until 3600. And I wouldn't be stunned if this thing got to 4000 by the end of the year.

Probably selling Li Auto today as well. I have no idea about them aside from Robinhood investors love an IPO so why not.

I've been trickling in small amounts into NKLA when they dip below 30ish. I may stop doing this until December as they intend to sell 250 million more stocks or whatever. My goal is to have $3k NKLA stock average price in the 20s by year end.

I've also picked up $1K of various pharma stocks... LLY, ABBV (Again), and the covid vaccine companies. MRNA is the only real risk - if their vaccine fails, that stock isn't worth much at all. PFE and AZN will take hits, but eh.

I'm also staying with DKNG for the long haul. I wouldn't stress about them and to a lesser extent GAN. This time next year sports will be back 80% to what they used to be if I had to guess.

this is probably an OK time to start getting into travel stocks. If there's a good vaccine phase 3 trial, then those stocks will spike. They will likely spike too high and that will be a great time to sell - AAL doubling it's current price would be insane but I do see such things happening. Buying AAL now with another month+ of bad news might feel bad. I would probably want to get in before any good vaccine news, for sure.

I kinda like Li Auto as a long term play because I think pure electric cars in China might be putting the cart before the horse (they're hybrids not electric cars) but I don't really wanna hold this much of my funds ransom that long since I reallocated my ATHX funds into it and I do think good news is coming there soon probably with their earnings call (though it's gone down like 10 cents since I sold it so that's like bonus money even if Li Auto doesn't really net me much).

So if it doesn't spike hard by Monday I'm probably selling it.

Yeah one thing to keep in mind with me and AAL is for me it was never meant to be a quick flip although I like quick flips. So yeah it has felt bad holding onto it as I have but at the same time unless this continues into 2022 for me I don't even twitch from most of the news.

Looked at AMD after Intel earnings when they were up 8% and thought "nah, not entering, too high" and then they finished at 16%
Looked at Amazon after earnings and bought at 5.50%. Thinking it's too low because wow those earnings
I am already down 1.50% and this day is not looking good at all

This is my 7th red day in a row. Every day, my stocks do alright overnight, and the plunge during the morning. It's been a brutal week and a half.

Yeah I've lost just over half my gains for the year over the last 7 trading days. Not a single giant red day, just a steady bleed.

China confirms the result of the Luckin audit and says they will punish the company. I think that's actually a good thing for the stock - China is protecting largely American investors, which it wasn't clear they were going to do especially with the current tensions. Would have been easy for them to say caveat emptor, too bad you lose to US investors.

Li Auto is hovering at $16 and has been for hours

It's making me really nervous. Like it's being artificially kept here and the bottom is gonna fall out any second.

I only lose like $90 it's not a huge deal.

It's just kinda weird. I feel like this manipulation might make it surge back upward too. But at that point I'm counting on the manipulation and not the stock itself.

I think I might just set a stop loss at $15.95 or something since it seemingly can't fall below $16.

I went in because I read how amazing their earnings reports were.
I didn't hear the same thing about Apple so I didn't get in...and yet look who is up +5% from the pre market and who is -2% from the pre market

Why? what did I do wrong? wasn't picking Amazon over Apple the smarter thing to do? I don't get it. I did the right thing!

Well that's why..... you read a good report. That means the info is already priced in. Buying after the news doesn't convey any advantage.

Okay went with the weird strategy

Sold 90% of my shares, put them back into ATHX

Now I figure if it runs I'll mitiagte my loss and if it tanks I at least I won't get completely annihilated.

What you did wrong was set your expectations incorrectly. And if you buy after a report, you should be buying for the next quarter+, not for the day.

I didn't end up selling my AMZN.

Also Apple's biggest news was the kind that strongly promotes buying rather than just boosting valuation, so while some people are taking their Amazon money as always happens with literally every stock ever that shoots up, the time to take the Apple money is after the first wave of buying post-split, not before it.

TLRD finally declares bankruptcy. But, it looks like they've secured enough funding to pay unsecured bondholders some fraction of what they're owed - not sure how much. There was an opportunity to buy the bonds for $2 for a $100 bond on Friday, but with this news my guess is those bargain prices will not be available upon market open. I should have bought some on Friday!

Finally a green day for me (assuming the market doesn't do a cliff plunge in the next 75 minutes)! After 7 straight red days, I was starting to feel frustrated.

TLRD stock will become TLRDQ and trade like a normal stock OTC until Bankruptcy proceedings complete, meaning you can still get out, and you can possibly even sell it for higher than it is valued at right now (like JCPNQ is currently 10 cents over what JCP ended at before declaring bankruptcy IIRC)

As I understand it depending on how the proceedings go, when they resolve, the stock will either turn to 0 value or investors will be compensated in some other way (with new stock of the non bankrupt company or whatever else)
