Didn't live up to half the promises they made during development, didn't really have much reason to DO any of the things the game has you do because the "ending" was shit (in spite of them having hyped it up in advance), didn't have all that much to do in general other than busywork, etc etc.

A lot of the problems have since been fixed via patches, where they've added a ton of new content to the game (for free, and not as a cynical cash-grab like most larger publishers/studios would). It's still not great, and it's still not exactly what they promised, but it's closer than it was.

Basically what PO said, plus for a very long time on the Steam page they kept the trailers and etc up which were showing content and mechanics which weren't in the actual game even though they were being called out on it.

it was a cool game even at release, but when pressed he would say that you could encounter other people in the game which turned out to not be true at launch

Not only that but iirc they doubled down on the lies for a while when called out in it.

Pretty much every complaint I'd heard was about false advertising and continued lying tbh.

that was all heavily exaggerated tbh

even when the guy said that yes you could encounter other people he was saying so hesitantly and following it up by saying the chances were extremely unlikely that it would ever happen

he should have just said that no they wouldnt have that feature when the game launched

I blame No Man's Sky for my recent lack of interest in playing new video games.

I was pretty hyped for it, and played it for a solid 10 or so hours hoping that it would get better. I now have trust issues with new games and give up on them if they don't completely enthrall me within the first hour.

I remember seeing the original announcement and being really excited. Then seeing reviews and reactions and some not-so-pretty YouTube videos really turned me off from it. I've still got it on my Steam Wishlist but I'm waiting for a sale that is worth my time.
