My biggest issue with BoF 4 is the sheer number of mini games that you have to do to advance the plot.

It had a pretty slow start, but didn't get far enough for it to improve. I gave up on it back when it first released, but I was getting REALLY burnt out on RPGs.

Did the same with Suikoden 2 as well.

I'm not fond of the fishing mechanics

Some of it sucks, but overall a very good game. My main gripe is you never get the dragon abilities by the time you should. You don't get a breath attack until You already have a superior breath attack, Aura never upgrades abilities, you don't get the secondary dragons until you're at the lull part of the game with no bosses to use them on hardly, it just has bad pacing. Overall I recommend it tho. 8/10 game imo.

Yeah it's fun now that I'm able to explore a bit more but I'm not a fan of forces mini games

They aren't generally that hard if you know the trick. Just look up how to do them if you can't get them to work. There's always some trick to it. Although this one game on a ship mast with Nina sucks hard.

I place it higher than 2, but only by a little. 2 is really grindy with a high encounter rate and the shaman fusions defusing when you get critical/KO is complete BS

Well, I mean at least you can do them over for SOME points, but the minigame that gives you the most, you can try infinite times sandflier and it gives out a lot of points.

BTW I mostly like 4 better because you can't really transform in 2 and that really blows. I like to transform dammit!

Fuck now I want to play 1-4 again. I have the SNES versions on Wii U. Despite popular opinion, I action like BoF1 for a variety of reasons.

I like 1-3 but 4 feels like a worse 3 that reused all of its assets. I dont like the villain at all.

yeah, but the bullshit about him just waiting for Ryu was pretty dumb imo. Villains need to be proactive.

Its fine if anyone liked him but i hated everything about him and halting the game to play his parts. I didnt enjoy anything about him and liked literally every other games villain over him.

well the story and villain was BoF4's major strong suit, so if you didn't like that, you won't like BoF4

I DID NOT like 4. It was a major step back from 3 and reused its assets. Like the entire cast is worse than 3. 4 is a worse 3, imo, of course.

At that point Fou-Lu just wanted his full power back and he knew Ryu would show up eventually. Plus I don't think he wanted to risk the cannon being fired again if he left the Empire.

Well you get to see who he is and how he views people and the world. His part of the game while short, gives him a lot of character development, especially with things in the endgame.

It is my favorite of the series. The battle system is a blast, being able to chain chain attack and power up spells. The mentor system is much improved over BoF3. I find it more engaging learning new techniques by doing certain tasks instead of just gaining X amount of levels. Fishing is stupid broken. Just use a spoon as bait and hit the tech 4 pattern. I will always the love the music, especially the theme in Cray's hometown.

you will probably want to get ebonfire from the black goo in the volcano and target from a snapfly although target isn't all that great... really just that one in the spoiler is the main one to get

Its one of my favorite games ever. If you like the third game, theres really no drastic change that would ruin the mechanics.

It definitely starts slowly, but it picks up. I am not a fan of difficult mini games, but theyre really not that bad in this game. Theres a really fun fishing minigame thats completely optional, which gives you some good stuff.

they changed the battle mechanics so that double blow and other lowered attack skills are much weaker which is a shame

3 has always been my favorite, but 4 is right up there.

At the very least, the narrative is tighter. 3 really doesn't get going until after you beat Balio and Sunder.
