I have a novel idea

make it election week. voting hours normal places, normal locations, but give people a week so the places can sanitize between uses.

confining it to a day has always been stupid

Chances are new York doesn't have a good system. Colorado mail in voting is very easy, highly recommended.

I'm fine with mail in ballots if they MUST be received prior to election day. Some states will be accepting them if the post-mark is dated by November 3rd.

Which means what? The first time in modern history where we won't know the winner the night of the election? Seems awfully shady.

You realize mail in ballots arent a new concept and have existed for years, correct? Not just around the world. But in the US. Well be fine. Why is it always the ones with conservative views that seem to be the most backwards on the most basic of concepts?

States that have experience with mail in voting and have a good system can make it work. States without that will not have the resources ready by election time.

Dude, Washington State has always had mail in ballots. They don't even have in person voting as an option, and it works fine.

Once a states' ballot is finalized, you should be allowed to mail in your votes at any time up to we'll just say end of October to keep things simple. Ballots mailed in after that get counted in the event of a recount or if they manage to get there early enough.

This.

It's not a difficult concept despite what the GOP says.

It's almost as if people could send their ballots in early and they could be counted early. Sure, not everyone will but a lot of people will.

They don't even have to be counted early. They can be counted the same night everyone else's is. They can be filed to be counted before then.

The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

In the event that the president cannot be sworn in on January 20, btw, the Pro Tempore takes over until they can, regardless of why. If that's because we're still counting shit in February then so be it.

It's about a month between the all-night election coverage and when the electors actually vote anyway.

The biggest opposition to an election week, is going to be the "Decision [year]" hype-makers.

That article doesn't support your initial claim. It explicitly states the reason that that particular election is taking so long, is because it doesn't usually allow voting by mail for the general public and they didn't hire more staff to handle the increase in mail in voting. It doesn't say the issue will happen again in November.

I fail to see how it's shady. Hell technically you never knew the winner on the night of the election, since the President is actually decided by the Electoral College.
