Current Events > Just bought a Switch, what games do I need?

So I broke down and bought one of the gamestop bundles, as I couldn't find anything selling just the switch.

Comes with a switch, a charging station, a wired controller, Zelda, and the new paper Mario. I was going to buy Zelda anyway, and had been looking at paper Mario so I am fine with the package.

Think I am going to get smash and pokemon from the local gamestop as I didn't want to place a separate order online.

Was also thinking about Mario odyssey and astral chain, kinda on the fence about animal crossing still. Don't know if it is my kinda game even though I like sims quite a bit. I own a PS4 already, so ports aren't of interest.

What else do I absolutely need?

Astral Chain, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon Sword/Shield, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Odyssey are great exclusives to start with.

Super Mario Odyssey is an incredible platformer. Definitely worth it.

Super Mario Maker 2 is damn good, but you need Nintendo Online. $20 for the year but you get all those SNES and NES games. Worth it.

If youre into Super Smash Bros, get it for Switch. Its great. Im just awful at it

You into Strategy RPGs? Because Fire Emblem Three Houses was terrific and my 2019 GotY.

If you want to experience the story from all sides (ie do all 4 routes + DLC) you'll easily get your money's worth.

You pretty much have the same games I have for it. Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Pokemon Sword. Eventually I wanna get Dragon Quest XI and Link's Awakening too. Maybe Animal Crossing.

Mario Galaxy? Did I miss something about them getting ported/remastered for the Switch?

Of the games I have, I'd say Mario Odyssey, BotW, and MK8 are the must have games. Give Mario + Rabbids a try. It's on sale a lot and it's pretty fun

Don't know how I forgot about three houses, that just completely slipped my mind.

Yeah, I am also going to get the online... get my ass kicked repeatedly at smash as I haven't played besides at a friends place since the gamecube days. Most of the indie stuff I already have on PS4 like stardew valley, goose game, etc.

Mario cart and tropical freeze are good suggestions, as are some of the others.

As to the controller, I had no choice, it was a bundle. Either get that entire package for 460 or pay 500-600 for the switch alone on amazon.

I think 4-5 games is enough to start out, but it's not like the prices really drop or there is anything big coming before the new SMT game. So it's either spend the money now or the same amount latter, and it doesn't really matter to me.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX is good if you're into roguelikes.

Mario+Rabbids is good, but because it was published by Ubisoft, you can get it on sale on the eShop pretty often

So, there are games to play.

Three Houses may get stale for you as you have to do multiple playthroughs to get the full story and they share a lot of maps. If you pick up ACNH now, you'll be very behind but they did just release a summer diving update so you'll have a lot to do. Personally, I didn't enjoy Pokmon Sword and Shield as I felt it was lacking in many aspects.

They remastered the first Xenoblade game too if that interests you.

Whenever I get a bunch of games all at once I end up sidelining some, and I don't always come back around to them. Paper Mario and Zelda can both keep you busy for hours.

Although I don't know how I feel about paying full price for last gen games... (yeah yeah mk8, tropical freeze, etc etc)

Think the Xenoblades are higher in contention for me as I like rpgs though.

I got Xenoblade DE and I'm enjoying it. The resolution is pretty bad but it's still a cool game.
