My roommate just spent $250 for an amount of food that I could hold in one hand. I spend less than that for an entire month's worth of food, and I haven't exactly been frugal with my grocery shopping lately.

(He bought some caviar, which was about 2/3 of the invoice, foie gras, truffle butter, and chestnuts.)

Yeah, I feel like this is an important question. I'm generally a frugal person when it comes to weekly groceries and my everyday eating, but I also have a strong interest food culture, fine dining, and trying new things, so I'm not opposed to splurging on the occasional caviar or Wagyu steak or tasting menu experience.

But what about that part about it not being healthy? That seems a bit odd.

Since fast food has the stigma of being unhealthy, that might be whats hes talking about. Though, restaurant food is normally fine. So, one might assume that he may have not been thinking of restaurants, and was only thinking of Fast Food places... Maybe...

One time in high school I jokingly told a girl I photosynthesized and she believed me. She is still not particularly bright today. Nice gal though.

He does tend to spend more money on food than I do when he's home (he's a truck driver so he's gone most of the time), but this is way, way beyond what he normally spends. Usually it's like $80 or so for a week's worth of food, which is still more than I spend (~$200 a month lately), but not unreasonable.

I just buy chips from the chip shop near me so don't spend much on takeaway food. Before the pandemic I just ate out most the time rather than ordering a takeaway and these days I've no real desire to eat out so just cook at home unless buying chips. I've been spending the most money on alcohol during lockdown.

I think my food budget is about 20 bucks a month. Pretty much 25 pounds of brown rice and only tap water to drink. I miss other foods.

Chronically ill with mystery disease that nearly kills me if I so much as have two sips of something isn't that water or a bite of something that isn't brown rice.

Theres actually some foods that don't hurt me THAT bad but that I still avoid mostly, like bananas. I've tried quite a lot of food and drinks. The last few days I've been having small amounts of chicken and just enduring the symptoms, hoping to maybe have my body get used to it or something but it got so hard to breathe this time that I'm not sure I'm going to continue. I'm frankly terrified to try it again.

I take a multivitamin everyday but it also gives me symptoms so I can only handle about 1/3rd of the recommended dose. Even IV fluids like lactated ringer or hypoallergenic stuff like elemental diet causes the same problems and none of the doctors have any clue at all whats going on but my nutrition is pretty dire. I'm very malnourished but I just don't know what else I can do and the doctors don't either. They just call me a zebra and say to find someone else.
