What's your favorite cartoon geared for adults?

There's so many to choose from too, I'm thinking R&M are going to take this, but Simpsons may put up a fight.

Of the ones I've watched a significant amount of...

At their peak:
South Park > Simpsons > Family Guy > Bob's Burgers > Futurama

Where they are today (or where it ended in Futurama's case):
Bob's Burgers > South Park > Futurama > Simpsons > Family Guy

Is Simpsons really "adult"? I saw a show here once that ranked kids TV shows and it was #1

And I thought it was weird to call it a "kids" show, but I'd also say that it feels completely different to me compared to Family Guy, R+M, Bojack, South Park

Also for me this is really close between Bojack and R+M, probably Bojack because it hits deeper even though R+M Is funnier.

Simpsons and Bob's Burgers are definitely at the lowest tier of adult cartoons in terms of actual adult content; you're not alone in feeling that there is a rift between them and the rest of the list.

I once saw a South Park documentary that had this to say regarding adult animation - "The Simpsons and Ren & Stimpy opened the door, Beavis & Butthead kicked open the door, and South Park took the door off its hinges."

Rick and Morty's been great, although I worry about it long term. Futurama's never a poor choice. The Simpsons is exceptionally iconic, but also well known for having declined. South Park's been all over the place but averages out decently. Family Guy...started out OK and went downhill from there. King of the Hill I would need to rewatch, but it's been criminally underrated.

Of the ones I've watched significant amounts of, I'd probably rank them something like Rick and Morty > Futurama > Classic Simpsons > King of the Hill > South Park > Modern Simpsons > Family Guy

BoJack is definitely as good as writing gets for such things, but for pure animation spectacle I prefer something like Superjail(!) as I could revisit those episodes as many times as I want and still never know to expect. Titmouse at the top of their game.

I considered it, but went for BoJack instead. There were a lot to consider.

Yeah I was kind of debating about it, but it's humor is definitely written with adults in mind. Plus while not on the level of the shows you mentioned. Simpsons still has things like alcohol, smoking and violence that wouldn't make the cut in your average kids show.

If it ended at Vice, you'd have a strong point. It's been downhill ever since and isn't even H. Jon Benjamin's best show anymore

I keep waiting for Rick and Morty to fall off hard but somehow it's staying great and even occasionally hitting new highs. I'd say it's the best of this bunch but that's largely because there's so much less of it than anything else and it hasn't had time to lose its shine. (Peak Futurama and Simpsons are better, for example, but there's a ton of bad in both of those.)

I'm guessing R+M will inevitably fall off because they have 60 more episodes to do and it's like, how could it not

I hope that they maintain a standard where even bad Rick and Morty is still decent overall. So far even the worst episodes - Pilot probably excepted - are still pretty good.

Dreamland and 199X were both pretty good. Kind of strange because Danger Island in between those was atrociously bad.
