This was sort of inspired by the Ori topic as I realized I barely remembered anything other than the artstyle and the end of the first dungeon. But I've realized there's a ton of games that I enjoyed while playing but entirely forgot about.

Rayman Origins is a big one for me-- I can't remember for sure if I even beat it (though I'm 95% sure I did)

Valiant Hearts I remember liking, but I couldn't even remember what type of game it was until I watched a trailer

Guacamelee was another one that seemed fun at the time, but I more or less completely forgot existed

Anyone else have games that you more or less forgot about despite enjoying them?

Yeah, I admit I had to look through my Steam catalogue of games I've played to find Valiant Hearts and Guacamelee. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have remembered them.

A lot of the metroidvanias I've only played once. Guacamelee is one but also Monster Tale, Aliens Infestation, Mega Man ZX Advent, etc. All games I enjoyed but ask me to describe one area/boss/etc and I wouldn't be able to do it.

I'm sure there are more but

i'm gonna agree with Guacamelee, I remember the really awful meme posters and SOME of the enemy designs (I remember details like "pumpkin head guy" and "hot lady") but I don't remember who the final boss was at all or the plot

I always did think it was weird that I wasnt excited for Guacamelee 2 because in my head I liked Guacamelee a fair amount, but in the end I don't think it was anything special enough for me to care about long term

i remember while typing this you could be a chicken that was cool

I was going to say "I remember that game! Always wanted to play it"
Then I looked to see if it was on steam and found out that it has been on my account since 2016

Just from looking at my trophy list, I think the game that comes closest to that is Enslaved. I can remember little bits of it but most of the game I can't remember.

But I remember thinking it was pretty good.

Unfortunately, there are a metric ton of games that are competent, but ultimately unremarkable.

They'll scratch the itch (or addiction) if you want a particular genre or experience. I used to only buy maybe 2 or 3 critically acclaimed games a year, so every experience would stand out. Unfortunately, a friend got me playing more, and then subscription services caught me.

By this point, I've played way more games than I can remember, and maybe only 10% of them are worth talking about

The solution to enhance my life was to branch out into other hobbies

A bunch of games from the PS2 era, probably... the catch-22 here is in trying to remember games I end up remembering quite a bit about them, as just happened with Second Sight. Maybe Black, an FPS I remember being good but unremarkable

Probably Just Cause 2 then? I can't even remember where it was set or anything particular about it, just it being pretty fun. Maybe InFamous? I got it free after the Sony hack in 2011, but can't remember anything else about it apart from standard InFamous stuff.

I am really appreciative of this topic now, because I looked up Black and realised it was developed by Criterion

And that led me to look up Burnout 3

I fucking LOVE Burnout 3, and I forgot how much I loved Burnout 3, and now really really want to play Burnout 3

The Professor Layton series is probably the best example of this for me, namely Unwound Future and Last Specter being the two I played and beat. I do remember picking up and subsequently beating Last Specter in the span of a few days right after finishing Unwound Future, because apparently I was really pleased with the latter as a teenager.

Also, Burnout 3 was one of my favorite games to watch my brother play as a kid, and now I wish I had actually played it.

how could you forget kirby super star

I will say the last few of them kind of blend together for me though. Like was Robobot the once where the main villain was a spider or whatever (sectionia?) maybe that was triple deluxe? But then what was the robobot villain? very confusing.

oh wait the Switch one is star allies, robobot is the 3DS. oh jeeze.

I remember Guacamelee quite a lot so I would disagree with that one. Something about the combat and platforming challenges just clicked for me, and I still remember some of the better platforming segments while I was going for 100%.

Looking back, I think the game I enjoyed the most that I remember the least about is one of the two Assassin's Creed 2 sequels. I have a lot of memories of AC2, but the sequels I am really struggling to remember anything in single player. Multiplayer was a lot of fun for me, but the stories must not have stuck out all that well.

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete Edition for PS1

It's kind of weird to me that I even obtained this game somehow because it was pretty rare even back when I was a young teenager. To the best of my memory, I think one of my family members got it for me without even really understanding what it was, just knowing that I liked games and specifically RPGs.

I remember spending a good amount of time playing the game to completion or nearly to completion, and I liked it a LOT at the time. That being said, my memory of my childhood and teenage years is pretty vague. I honestly can't tell you much about the game other than the fact that I really liked it when I played it.

I played Secret of Mana to completion a little over 10 years ago or so, and I couldn't tell you a thing about it. The characters, the plot, the locations, it's all a total blank.

I also played and finished Seiken Densetsu 3 soon after, and that one didn't fare much better. All I have is a vague recollection of the early parts of Riesz's route.
