Ridley's wicked, but Giygas is all that which is evil.

I'd say Giygas, since you can't be more evil than the very concept and being of evil itself.

According to mother 1 he was originally an innocent being I think.

Ridley is like just a normal sentient being that knowingly does evil for its own means which could be worse.

Arguably, Giygas is insane and so not really in control of his actions, while Ridley has free will and chooses to be evil, which makes him worse.

Ridley has full mental acuity, and Giygas does not. Plus, MOTHER 1 Giygas, when he was sane, is still less evil than Ridley

Yeah, Giygas is arguably not evil at all. During the final battle in Earthbound he seems to be in constant pain and may even be asking to be friends with Ness. Ridley, on the other hand, is just a complete dick.

Oh it does say he produced the original game, but Sakamoto created the characters so I think he's still the guy to ask.

Agree with other comments. While Giygas is a supposed 'being of pure evil', we don't really see it do much of anything except... be crazy... in Earthbound. Ridley meanwhile is sadistic and wicked by choice. He just feels more evil.

My feelings on this have Mother 1 spoilers. He was raised by Nestens great grandparents and even though the alien leaders of his planet have him attack earth, its the lullaby that she sang to him as a baby that caused him to leave in distress; he still cares for them and cant bring himself to destroy earth. He was even saying he would take Neaten with him, saving him because of his heritage. In Earthbound as some sort of attempt to harden his heart for another go he manages to unlock some kind of ultimate evil power that drives him insane; but its whatever power that is (which isnt fully explained) that is the ultimate evil; Giygas himself is a lost soul who made some bad decisions from a race who are clearly kind of jerks.

Ripley is an unrepentant murder criminal as far as I know. Hes evil and enjoys it.

I dont believe Giygas is evil itself. Pokey talks about how he went mad. Evil itself cant be sane or insane; its a concept. I read it more as he infused himself with the power of evil itself and became its avatar in a sense. So youre fighting the ultimate evil but Giygas himself is just its vessel; a vessel that couldnt hold it so it became whatever the hell he ended up as.

Giygas (alien) and Giygas (evil entity) are the same but in a sense different imo
