Whether you think itll be around or not before you leave this earthly plain in the form you currently take.

For me, I think some kind of VR game. Sort of like SAO. What I mean is a game you can really get immersed in. To where it feels like life.

What about you, PotD?

Machines that can make any kind of food you want, made specifically to your taste, but with totally healthy ingredients (no actual animals killed either). Basically 3d printers of food mixed with star trek tech.

VR as mentioned above, full immersion, including full tactile immersion so VR sex is extremely lifelike (but even better in fact cause less limits and not based around basic biology restrictions).

UBI for everyone, work is primarily voluntary (most things can be done with robots etc), everyone has a safe place to live, unlimited entertainment/VR and the above machine that makes any food/drink they want.

That would be a start at least.

Boring while theyre building a new life there... Afterwards, it might be a little interesting. Now, going there afterwards cild be really fun...

American boots on the moon.

In all seriousness, refocus of resources to overhaul USA infrastructure. Rebuild bridges, roads, and plumbing to make them more resilient and hardy. Replacing remaining lead-lined pipes with pipes that aren't, well, hazardous to one's health *cough* Flint *cough*. Expansion of and upgrading telecommunication lines to bring cheap and fast internet to all Americans, not just those who can afford it. Replacing existing computer systems and hardware in critical areas like waste management, water filtration, power, defense, etc so that they're not running 50+ year-old technology and increase security at these sites so they can't be easily disabled.

A focus on and education to help those, if they so choose to accept the help, eat and live healthier so they're not reliant on expensive medication and can live longer and more enjoyable lives.

More domestically-manufactured goods that would create less reliance on goods being imported into the country, thereby decreasing the cost of the goods and creating more jobs for those who need them.

Oh! Forgot the most important one.

A focus on more green, self-sustainable energies and less reliance on mining coal and importing oil, thereby decreasing the power of Big Oil.

This reminds me of something. It would also be cool (though expensive, and not likely to happen for many reasons) if a bunch of cities were rebuilt. I was thinking it would kind of be cool if cities were built like the colony in Xenoblade Chronicles X, except bigger and better...

Thing that sucks is by the time these are affordable and lifelike (don't just lay there), I'll be too old to care. Maybe even for VR sex as well, unless age doesn't matter for that (which is possible).

I may make it to the point where humans can live forever, but I may be to old by then to care.

I wouldnt think age would matter much is VR since its more of a mind thing. It should be fine. If we make it to a point where we can live forever, it depends on how. If its like new bodies or something, youll be fine. If its like a jellyfish where we can re-age, that would be fine, but with a bunch of complications depending how that works. If its stuck at the age where were at, people might not like it much. But we could also have a bunch of strong old people...

Medical advancements (whether it's research on telomeres, stem cell treatments, etc...) to drastically reduce and reverse aging.
We've gotten pretty good at keeping people alive for a long time, but very little to make those years past 80 or so actually enjoyable/healthy. Just a lot of being confined to beds and machines and being in pain.

I want to live a long damn time, and be healthy and active for as much of it as possible. Fuck it, try out cloning, too.

It'll probably be in stages, initially extending our current lifespan drastically (Say to 200), and then long term being able to regrow organs etc and rejuivinate bodies. So it might start off with me being oh like 65-70 for 80+ years....and I don't really know if I could stand that to eventually get to a point where I could be young again.

If VR was much better though, I probably could, and yeah, VR might allow for sex etc, but i'm not sure if it can recreate a sex drive, which mostly goes away (Well for most people) after a certain age. If you don't have an interest in sex, the best VR in the world probably wouldn't create one.

I want to come back to GameFAQs and laugh when all game sales are digital. I know if there's any best place to do it on the internet full of people thinking in an old fashioned way about games it's here.

I might even get a response comment for this very post once again going on about how much better they think physical games are than digital.

So often the argument is tired and repetitive, I'd rather just wait until digital actually wins 100% then laugh.

When I read this it took a second for me to parse the context (I missed the "us"), and for a moment I thought you were talking about the Old Gods who tend to pop up in Lovecraft and his imitators. Or just sort of chthonic semi-entities in general. And I was all ready to jump on that train. We need more unknowable Powers that drive anyone who contemplates them mad from the knowing of it.

WastelandCowboy posted...

To be fair, it's a pretty common god-trope that gods require belief to be empowered, so it's really only our own lack of faith that has left the old gods weak and incapable of the sort of grandstanding they used to do. So it's really our own damned fault. If we want miracles and magic, we have to earn them.

Conversely, there's also the corollary that belief can also theoretically empower a new god who has never existed before if enough people believe in it, so again it's a complete failure of imagination and worthiness on our part that we haven't conjured up a God of Rainbows, Ice Cream and Hand Jobs and faithed them into reality (and even ignoring the metaphysical aspects, that's essentially how gods DO work on a metaphorical level - ie, they're our assumptions of what gods would and should be, because we're the ones who invented and perpetuated the concept of them).

ie, if we weren't such shitty people, we wouldn't have such shitty gods.
