How about instead of unemployment then, the parent (or one of the parents) is paid by the state as a home school educator? Temporary position, at the rate of pay for whatever job they gave up to teach (within reason).

1) Uses a survey of JUST Toronto children
2) Doesn't address whether the US should open up, he's only speaking of Toronto - Canada as a whole has handled COVID better than then US
3) Doesn't address the American Pediatric Association's recommendation NOT to open if COVID numbers are spiking

Schools should open up, but we should get the virus under control like Europe did before doing so. It's that simple. Doing so in this current climate is stupid, plain and simple. Nobody is saying wait for a vaccine, they are saying we need to stop being stupid and control the damn virus before allowing schools to resume. Deaths and infections are rising, if you think both of those should be rising as we open up schools then you have zero clue about anything.

They won't learn much when 20% of the teaching staff straight up retires or find new jobs if they are forced to go back. And it will be even harder to learn as their teachers drop like flies from the virus spreading to all of them.
