11,000 infected children in Florida say otherwise.

If 11,000 kids have been infected without schools, imagine how big of a shit show we're going to have with schools open

Scientists have already said children are much less susceptible to the virus. Yes they should go back, single mothers cant afford to have them stay home this year.

I'd still caution against it, if online alternatives are available. Obviously Canada isn't Florida but it just seems needlessly risky.

I think the "just close everything until the miracle vaccine gets here in 6 months" crowd and also the "coronavirus is airborne there's no hope" crowd should watch the whole video and educate yourselves.

Apparently less susceptible means immune to you. Also who cares if the teaching staff dies. Or the kids spreading covid19 to their family.

What do you propose then? I think you should watch the video. They weigh the alternatives.

Online classes to have less dead kids, teachers, staff, and family members.

Not all kids can sit in front of a computer for 8 hours a day and absorb that information. You are basically setting them up to fail.

Remote learning, government provides loaner laptops/tablets, stronger unemployment for single parents so they can watch their kids

It's a shitty situation, but we can't just pretend things are normal and reopen

Government is not going to be giving stronger unemployment, lets not kid ourselves here. Listen, I get what youre saying, and I dont disagree, but if you think stronger unemployment is gonna happen you are kidding yourself.

Im trying to to a realist here, sure it would be great if we could execute your plan, but the truth is thats just a fantasy and wont happen.

So they don't. So everyone is a year "behind". Hundreds of thousands of kids repeat school years, you think that's gonna break them?

I just dont think thats realistic.

You asked for a plan. I gave you one that would work if people got on board. Not my fault the government is unwilling to compromise.

It is a cool plan Ill give you that, but you gotta look at the world around you and realize your plan is just not the world we are living in. I like your optimism, but Im trying to accept the cards we are dealt. And sadly that doesnt align well with your plan. It really is great though.

How about instead of unemployment then, the parent (or one of the parents) is paid by the state as a home school educator? Temporary position, at the rate of pay for whatever job they gave up to teach (within reason).

Thats a cool idea.

He's one expert that:
1) Uses a survey of JUST Toronto children
2) Doesn't address whether the US should open up, he's only speaking of Toronto - Canada as a whole has handled COVID better than then US
3) Doesn't address the American Pediatric Association's recommendation NOT to open if COVID numbers are spiking

Dont be so ignorant. Hes a CEO for a hospital in CANADA. He gets paid the same regardless of how many people they treat and this is Toronto where even without coronavirus the hospitals have like 6+ hour waiting times

But you would rather just come here and say some dumb shit lol

Schools should open up, but we should get the virus under control like Europe did before doing so. It's that simple. Doing so in this current climate is stupid, plain and simple. Nobody is saying wait for a vaccine, they are saying we need to stop being stupid and control the damn virus before allowing schools to resume. Deaths and infections are rising, if you think both of those should be rising as we open up schools then you have zero clue about anything.

It is what it is though

I see a lot of people on here and their solution to the problem is basically all of a sudden, like a flip of a light switch, the entire human race becomes intelligent, responsible, professional, altruistic and we achieve world peace and harmony or something. It isn't happening.

They won't learn much when 20% of the teaching staff straight up retires or find new jobs if they are forced to go back. And it will be even harder to learn as their teachers drop like flies from the virus spreading to all of them.
