It was less being "vegan" and more just eating like nothing but lettuce for seven days.

I started transitioning to it back in October because I hate our animal agriculture industry. But even if I stopped caring about that I think I will stick to a plant-based diet. I feel so much better physically now. No more constipation or feeling sick after I eat. I have more energy, my joints hurt less, and I have lost weight while barely even trying.

And I'm surprised by how easy it's been to give up animal-based foods. Some of the best food I've ever ate is vegan-friendly.

And it's actually been cheaper. Since there are few vegan options in restaurants around here I've resorted to home cooking more often. And vegan food is really cheap if you make it yourself.

I try to take animals and the environment into consideration, but going without animal products for too long seems to awaken this primal urge within me like "WHERE IS MY MEAT?!?"
Also I cannot deny that there are animal products that have many useful and healthy contents when taken in moderation (especially eggs and salmon)

I admire what vegans and vegetarians are trying to do, but I fear it won't be realistic to convince enough people to stop eating meat / animal products to make an impact.

Honestly, I think our best bet is the development of cultured meat:
People get to eat all the meat they want, yet no animal has to be killed for it, and the bio industry can be reduced significantly, which is good for the animals and the environment.
Everybody wins.

Lots of vegans thought the same.

I personally didn't give up meat because it's gross or because I otherwise didn't like it. I was a big time meat eater due to the combination of culture, environment, and binge eating disorder. It seemed so impossible for me to do that I never really entertained it on any serious level. I'm sure you could even find some posts of mine on the food board saying I couldn't/wouldn't ever go vegan.

Then I gave it a try and realized what I got out of the deal simply didn't matter as much to me anymore and from then on, it was a very easy transition.

I still have a lot to try, but one website I keep going back to is the one from the Game Changers movie website. Everything I've tried on there has been great. My favorites are the BBQ chickpea and carrot sliders, the baked tofu club sandwich, keemas madras, and the black bean sweet potato quesadillas.

https://gamechangersmovie.com/food/recipes/

I've personally been experimenting with veganizing old family recipes while I still remember what they taste like. I replaced the meat in my mom's spaghetti bolognese and sloppy joes with something called textured vegetable protein. Unlike lots of other fake meats on the market this stuff is really cheap. It also doesn't need to be refrigerated. I liked that it absorbs flavors really easily, so it's very versatile.

I was one of them. I didn't just love meat, I lived it. My brother and I were really into BBQ. We spent hundreds of dollars on equipment and all that. Now I barely even miss it, and I only stopped eating it a half a year ago.

Yep. People in my family have even owned BBQ businesses. I still have a smoker with a few decades of family experience that saw countless dead animals thrown on it. I rarely fire it up because I just don't like the hassle of dealing with it but I occasionally load it up with vegetables.

It was definitely a transition though. The first year was full of... I don't want to say challenges because it really wasn't even an issue, but unexpected decisions, I'll say. I didn't really account for the things I would be "giving up," especially some of the traditional seasonal foods that are big in my family. Every time one came up, however, there was not much struggle or hesitation. It was easy and automatic.

I spend a lot less now. I buy beans, grains, frozen veggies and fruit all in bulk. Usually eat for pennies a day while still lifting heavy.

The vegan options at restaurants are usually the cheapest. Indian restaurants became a passion. Massive portions of delicious vegan food for cheap.

I have tried many of them of various brands, and a few of them taste pretty good on their own, though that's usually due to a certain kind of filling (like cheese with spinach). None of them however actually taste like the real thing however imo. I wish it did, but my body's not falling for it.
That's another reason why I'm pro cultured meat. It's the real thing without doing any damage to animals or the environment.

my gf is vegan. I try to be most of the time. if a place gets our order wrong and has eggs or something in it, I'll usually just eat that for both of us or swap our meals. or if i'm with family I just eat whatever. I wouldn't want to call myself vegan even if i'm eating that 99% of the time, because it's an ethical stance and not a diet

Certainly not reprentative of the whole, but I know 7 vegans and 4 of them are fat. Considering there's plenty of vegan carb sources it's not shocking. While animal products are not generally fattening and even serve to help a person avoid overloading on carbs.

Vegetarian? Besides turkey and chicken I could give up eating meat (solely for health benefits since stuff like high blood pressure run in my family and I figure cutting out meat would prevent that). Hell, the only reason I haven't tried it out during quarantine is because I've started lifting.

Vegan? Even if I wasn't lifting I wouldn't do it. Not because I couldn't, but because I don't want to. Giving up milk, cheese, and other things that are animal products is stupid in my eyes since I don't give a shit about what vegans say is "hurting the animals" (in the sense of dairy/eggs being collected). Hell from a biological standpoint isn't it unnatural? Like go into nature and you'll see omnivores and carnivores eating meat. Why would I limit myself to stuff at no real benefit?

It's the bread products and processed sugars that are being avoided in that case. Most animal products are not carb heavy and carbs are what creates fat.

Makes me wonder why the majority of vegans whom I know are fat.
