I'm basically okay with the early stuff, because some of that is really interesting, and some of the core beliefs of Christianity are there, e.g. the Ten Commandments, and the end is really interesting, with the various books of prophecy, and certainly books of wisdom, like Proverbs...but the middle is so tedious. Kings 1, Kings 2, Chronicles 1, Chronicles 2, etc. It's just history, hardly any new or well explored ideas at all. And the history isn't even that convincing. All the strange stuff that happens, all the farfetched things.

Much of the Old Testament is interesting, helpful, and a good perspective on how Abrahamic religion works, and almost all of the New Testament is interesting, but...I dunno. The middle is so boring. Is it my fault, or is it actually considered dull by many people? Is this just "Sunhawk being Sunhawk"?

Big deal. I have books in my (fiction) collection that I've read 10 or more times. Foundation, Asimov; Second Foundation, Asimov; The Birthday Party; Panoz Karnesiz; Franny and Zooey, JD Salinger. Possibly others.

ba-zing

all that aside, i think the reason i'm done is because i was looking for god-given truth in it and i went to a good ol' 'bible believing' church that caused me a lot of problems, then tried more liberal churches and ultimately just went, 'what am i doing?'. if i have to start looking at the thing piecemeal it just ain't the same

I actually find the prophets to be a lot harder to read than most of the books of history. Chronicles excepted.

After like 30 chapters of God talking about how angry he is, it starts to all run together. And there are probably legit over 100 of these chapters.

Jonah is a nice breath of fresh air though.

Jonah was a great little book. One of the first I bothered to read all the way through, 2 or 3 years ago. It helps that it's short, I suppose.

Jonah is one of those few parts of the Bible famous enough for an atheist to be aware of. Much be pretty famous, right?

I've always wanted to read the Bible from from to back along with the Qur'an. I hear the Qur'an has beautiful stories.
