Recent as in like, the past 5 years or so. I feel like I know basically nothing about recent books, but I wouldn't definitely be interested in reading some if I was pointed in the right direction!

I really liked A Head Full of Ghosts from 2015, about a family who agrees to let a reality show be made where their disturbed teenage daughter will be exorcised because they are desperate for money. It does a great job juggling a bunch of possibilities.

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

Basically, what if Mystery Inc grew up into severely disturbed adults and realised that it's all because their last case wasn't just some guy in a mask.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power is fantastic if you don't mind an outbreak/quarantine book. Amazing atmosphere, great body horror

Also if you're into Lovecraftian horror there's The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle

A Sick Gray Laugh by Nicole Cushing, a great modern update on Lovecraftian themes, that's darkly hilarious & intriguingly bleak.

The dead are not quiet in Hill House.

If you like Agatha Christie style whodunnit mysteries, check out Ruth Ware. The Woman in Cabin 10 is excellent.
