This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

You could argue low midcarder but I don't think people are gonna make much distinction between Blue and Gary.

Guy (Final Fight/Street Fighter) - Low fodder

Same problems Cody had a few days ago.

Jessie Rasberry (Final Fantasy VII) - Mid fodder

FFVII character you meet pretty much right at the beginning of the game, has a few scenes in the first few hours, the recent FFVII remake would have both reminded people they exist (if you haven't played it in a decade or weren't a super fan it might be easy to forget) and I hear it expanded their role (though with how long it stretches the Midgar arc, I assume almost everyone's role being expanded is a given?), and she's an attractive female. FFVII being such a important game from many gamers' youths, people probably care a lot more about this one NPC than would otherwise seem justified. Could see an argument for high fodder but I haven't played the remake so I'll see what others think on that.

agree with Midcarder on Gary and Low Fodder on Jimi Hendrix.

I say Mid Fodder for Guy. While he isn't as big of a fan favorite among Street Fighter fans, he has a lot more relevance in Final Fight itself. Like his early contemporaries Ryu and Strider, he'll get a ninja bonus too. Plus he appeared in all 3 of the SF Alpha games and Super Street Fighter IV. I think it is likely that those among the Gfaqs demographic have played at least one game that featured Guy.

I'll agree with Mid Fodder on Jessie. High might be possible but I'm going to be cautious considering FF7R is still pretty new, and I think Jessie was probably low fodder prior to this.

Agree with Axem. Being called Gary might actually be a net advantage versus Blue, given that Gary's anime role is certainly more indelible for GameFAQs than Blue's GSC and HGSS appearances, and that the two characters are extremely similar otherwise.

I'll also nominate Ancient Minister, April O'Neil, Arcanine, Arceus, Arsene, Billy Cranston, Dragonair, Dragonite, Haunter, Issun, Jafar, Lapras, Mercy, Michael Wilson, Mr. X, Naoto Shirogane, Noob Saibot, Oerba Dia Vanille, Paul McCartney, Plankton, Presea Combatir, Ruby Rose, Sandy Cheeks, Solus zos Galvus, Swampert, Tae Takemi, Teddie, and Yami for ranking. I'm honestly surprised some of those characters have been sitting at one nomination for so long, especially Naoto.

nominate Dr Doom for re-ranking. Popular on B8 or not, the main rival of the Fantastic Four hasn't had much going for him in the past decade save for a terrible 2015 movie. I think he will fall to mid fodder but probably be one of the better ones seeing that he is still an iconic comic villain and had a major gaming impact with his Marvel vs Capcom appearances.
