And its been 6 months since the last firmware update, and they will probably stop all together soon.

And its been over a year since a first party Nintendo game was released for the system.

RIP 3DS

Sorry, you weren't really all that interesting of a character, so I mostly relegated you to cameo supporting cast years ago. At this point I mostly just keep you around to occasionally show up in the background of a more important scene to establish a feeling of continuity.

Another depressing reminder that Nintendo has left the handheld space. (And no, I don't count the Switch as a handheld.)

I still have my Ambassador 3DS, and I STILL use it (it's my primary night time device).

I was still checking the Virtual Console every month but there hasn't been a new release since Pokemon Crystal Enhanced, which was like 2 years ago

It makes sense. The only reason to have a 3DS at this point is the library. The Switch has otherwise made it completely obsolete.

I guess if they're kinda disco'ing all support for the 3DS, I probably shouldn't worry about linking accounts with it?

I.... what?

The Switch doesn't adequately fulfill the 3DS's function as a true handheld.

I had an OG Ambassador 3DS, but when I got the Ambassador New 3DS, (was invited to buy when they first came out as I registered the OG Ambassador 3DS) I gave the old one to my brother.

Went to play it for the first time in a while and the battery was captut, not holding a charge and expanding, so I took it out and ordered a new 3P one online, still waiting on that.

Okay but all these disabilities don't help the plot so like... Relief please? Whatever plot you have going for all these extra pain flare ups better be good, damnit.

And on topic, we didn't do any homebrew with the Wii until it was discontinued. At that point might as well. I actually care about obtaining games... Well did. Couldn't transfer my account to a different system due to the stupid new 3ds won't transfer to anything else so it's holding over $100 worth of games and DLC ransom....

Actually it's kind of a surprise I haven't considering that. Hmm idk.

You should, because it's more handheld than it is console.

It's essentially a handheld that can be docked, not a console that can be played on the go (like what they were trying to do with the Wii-U).

It's why, when it first came out and they were like "No, it's not a handheld, it's the replacement for the Wii-U, not the 3DS", I was like, "Yeah, calling bullshit on that one."

Could you even play Wii U on the go?

I swear I remember the pad crapping out even in the same house if I got too far away from the console.

3DS has no new games, and Nintendo still bans you for hacking into it.

PS Vita still has games releasing for it, and yet Sony doesn't give two shits about all the crap you put into it.

I mean, the writing has been on the wall basically since the Switch came out. Still a bit surprising, since there's definitely a market for people that don't want to lug something as big as a Switch around, either. But with mobile (cringe) games now a main-stay, it probably makes sense that the handheld gaming market isn't worth the time to tap into anymore. Nintendo focusing on Switch-only versions of Pokemon and FE, long-time handheld mainstays, basically shows where they stand on the idea.

It's kinda sad, though. I still get some love out of my 3DS from time-to-time, and the restrictions of handhelds lead to some innovative game designs. Hope that part at least continues. I'll also miss being able to take FE/Pokemon/Advance Wars easily wherever I wanted to.

It's far too big to be portable, meaning it's not much of a handheld. It's even larger than the fucking Gamegear *and* has a worse battery life. It's definitely a console, whether or not it's docked, because you're stuck playing it near it a power source. It's an all-in-one console, basically.

Given that it's apparent that you've never used a handheld and therefore understand absolutely nothing (apparently also including the English language), hand size has no impact on the portability of a system because -- and I know this might shock you -- but handheld games aren't simply carried around in-hand because that defeats the point of a portable system. As for hand size affecting the utility of a system, that's still not a portability issue. The size of a system matters for travel -- because you can't just safely put it in your pocket -- and then you have things like battery life. The Switch's portability is strictly inferior to a *Game Gear*

I guess I should *also* get a 2DS XL (that way I'd have three, with one being a back-up), but that thing looks fragile.

Unfortunately around here we haven't found a single 'new' line unit. I say unfortunately because I can't transfer from my 'new' model to a regular model which means the DLC and digital only games (as well as one physical that is apparently too tied to the DLC) are completely lost to me.

It's really starting to bug me.

I haven't even seen the old line units tbh. Nothing. Everybody is citing COVID-19 and saying handhelds are bought up and Nintendo isn't sending more now.

I have so many freaking old line ones tho. Well like 3.
