Stuff:
- Ratings 1-10, no decimals. If you include a decimal, I will round down.
- We will do two ratings for each character character (CH) & unit (UN). They will be separate lists and you do not have to rate for both lists. Character rating is for design, personality, aesthetics, story, etc. and unit rating for everything gameplay related. If you only submit one rating and dont specify which, it will default to the character rating.
- You are free to rate any characters from past days or change your rating.
- Nominations for future characters are accepted. This does not guarantee your noms will be up for rating the next day but they will be moved up the queue for sooner rather than later.
- You obviously do not have to rate everything, just the ones you want.
- No regular schedule (e.g. Day 2 will not necessarily come ~24 hours after Day 1)

Marth, Caeda, and Innes are all among my favorite characters. Marth has some of the best lines in Shadow Dragon and despite being a Generic Hero Guy he's just well-written and believable. Caeda is hilarious for the way she can zero in on complete losers in the enemy army to recruit by slightly flirting with them. Innes is a solid foil to the twins and just a cool character in general. I like Ricken more than his "don't treat me like a kid" archetype would suggest but he's not a favorite or anything. Panne is Missed Opportunities, The Character and it kinda just makes me sad but that's not her fault. She's a cool rabbit lady and I wish she got more screen-time.

Marth is hard to rate as a unit. Obviously as a combat unit he's middling at best but he's great for treasure duty and your only option for visiting villages, so you definitely want him around (not to mention he's required). I'll go with a 6 here, arbitrarily. Caeda is a sky goddess who rains pointy death on her enemies. She's not a brain-dead invincible character but she's definitely at the top of the Shadow Dragon roster. Innes is mediocre as far as FE8 prepromos go -- he won't hold you back (not any more than any other archer, at least), but he's definitely not going to impress much either. Ricken is okay, I guess? I don't think him or his closest competition Miriel are anything special, especially compared to Robin, but he's adequate. Panne is a boring unit who can only do one thing, but she's okay at it at least.

I like Marth a fair bit, though I've heard a lot of that is that the English localization of Shadow Dragon makes him (and everyone) sound more eloquent. He and Caeda are both pretty simple but likable characters. Innes is generic, Ricken is a little annoying but thankfully not too bad, and Panne alternates wildly between being pretty likable and being obnoxious.

Marth is kind of bad but mainly because his best quality is just strictly inferior to something it competes with for funding (forged effective weapons yay). His stats are pretty assy but enough to function and the Rapier is still a good weapon, but you don't end up having the money to forge it most of the time and Shadow Dragon is maybe the single worst game in the entire series to be sword locked in. Caeda on the other hand is bonkers, doubles everything in a game where doubling is rare, can fly unpromoted which even without rescue still allows her to do some neat stuff, and has the Wing Spear that just erases things. Best unit in the game for sure. She has her flaws but they're pretty easy to play around or solve (Robe fixes durability, and early promotion fixes basically everything).

Innes is solid filler for a while on Eirika's route but being locked to bows is sad, doesn't give nearly enough opportunity to use his actually very good bases. He's pretty shit on Ephraim route due to joining so much later, after the point where his stats have fallen off a bit. Ricken is kind of bad but not unsalvageable, at least he hits on Res and can be a Rescue staff user later. Panne is the best non-Robin first gen combat unit once Frederick falls off with a reclass to Wyvern Rider, but she needs to get out of E rank hell and early Second Seals are not free by any means which holds her back since bunny is bad. Still think she's fairly good overall because even if the price is high, at least she pays off fairly well (nothing unique, but her combat edge in a flying class is noticeable) and her bases are enough to at least chip in a bit before you can reclass her. If you're factoring in getting lucky with a random merchant selling you an extra Seal she's much better than if she has to compete for the ones you're guaranteed to get.

Marth is stuck with swords, never promotes, and can't reclass, which are all bummers in Shadow Dragon. His high growths can eventually make him into a strong fighter even on higher difficulties, but with his wimpy bases it takes a long time, and it's more efficient to leave combat to other characters. His rapier can also be a little bit underwhelming. It is possible to forge it up to 1HKO range on a lot of enemies, but that is very expensive due to the low starting might. Unfortunately he only gets the Falchion for two chapters which are easy to skip. Shadow Dragon really does have good dialog writing, which serves to make him one of the best normal lords. He's also very pretty, apart from his Shadow Dragon portrait.

Caeda is the best unit in Shadow Dragon. Her exclusive Wing Spear and its higher might compared to rapier make an efficient option for killing the numerous cavaliers and armors in Shadow Dragon, which includes a lot of bosses. She cap-rams her speed super hard, which makes her effective damage boss killing a lot more effective than Marth's. Promotion to Dracoknight gives her huge boosts to strength and defense, her primary weak points. She can also make use of the Paladin class if there are too many bows around or she needs +2 speed. A higher-level Caeda can even reclass to Swordmaster to double and one round a fire dragon with a forged wyrmslayer. It's true that she's not nearly as ridiculous as Marcus, but I think she still justifies the perfect score, and I would say her relative lack of dominance is a testament to Shadow Dragon's above average balance and satisfying difficulty. She's a likable character and her recruitment dialogs really are funny.

Innes is a sniper. Everything else about him is good, but he's held back in a big way by his class. He might be a little less useful than FE7 Louise due to the lack of some of her unique niches, but he still makes an acceptable filler unit. His arrogant personality and relationships with other major characters do him favors as a character.

Since everyone has high growths and power-leveling options in Awakening, one of the biggest things that defines a bad unit is taking a long time to get going. A low speed base is especially bad, which makes Ricken one of the worst early-game units along with Virion. He can at least contribute with Elwind against fliers on his join chapter, even without investment. He's another Awakening character who mostly speaks in a single gimmick.

Panne has even higher growths than most other units, and can grow into a mighty Wyvern Lord with the investment of a second seal - she may be the second best candidate for an early one, behind Robin. Lack of access to Galeforce drags her down compared to Sumia or Cordelia, as do the doldrums of her starting class an E axes upon reclass. I'd say I like her better than a lot of others in Awakening, but she can still be a bit dull.

Ricken's not actually that bad as a unit IMO. Relatively free staff access and good Mag in a game where Rescue is god is incredibly useful

Innes is pretty great as a character, I love his arrogant personality and he has one of my favorite "death" quote. Not so great as a unit but whatever. Ricken kinda sucks as a character and as a unit. Panne is fine as a character but she's pretty beastly as a wyvern rider.
