want to have it again in the future? Like to scare us off from it?

In X and Y(And ORAS) Mega Evolution was played up as a positive thing. You and the Pokemon forming a powerful bond to make the Pokemon even stronger. Giving new life to certain Pokemon was also nice(Beedril being viable?)... But then in Sun and Moon, Megas got Pokedex entries, many of them have less than comforting entries. Granted this could just be due to Sun and Moon having grimmer Pokedex entries in general(Being far less afraid to talk about Pokemon killing other Pokemon, or being deadly in general like Gengar.)

A few examples...

Mega Scizor
It stores the excess energy from Mega Evolution, so after a long time passes, its body starts to melt.

Mega Tyranitar
Due to the colossal power poured into it, this Pokmon's back split right open. Its destructive instincts are the only thing keeping it moving.

Mega Lucario
It readies itself to face its enemies by focusing its mental energies. Its fighting style can be summed up in a single word: heartless.

Mega Salamence
Mega Evolution fuels its brutality, and it may even turn on the Trainer who raised it. It's been dubbed "the blood-soaked crescent."

Mega Gengar
It tries to take the lives of anyone and everyone. It will even try to curse the Trainer who is its master!

Some of these entries would be more fitting for Shadow Pokemon, not Mega Evolution wouldn't it? At no point in X/Y/OR/AS are you told that Mega Evolution is hurting your Pokemon or driving it crazy or anything like that. Tyranitar has another entry that suggests it can't even hear your orders anymore. Glalie's jaw is broken, Houndoom's internal temperature is so high that it's hurting it.

I will admit that I don't read the manga so if that's how it's always worked there then fine. I'm also aware that there was a plot point of Korrina's Lucario losing its mind during Mega Evolution in the anime, but that was implied to be because it wasn't strong enough to control it yet rather than it being what's supposed to happen(Gurkinn's Lucario is in full control during Mega Evolution).

Z moves were dropped far more casually, but those aren't about the Pokemon itself. Was there ever an explanation over this change from "Deep bond with your Pokemon" to "Literally wants to murder people"?

I think you are putting more thought into it than the company, who just probably cranks out new ideas to sell the new game and adjusts the future based on what they thought was well received.

I still go by the theory that Pokedex entries are in-universe folklore and myths (collated by ten-year-olds), not factual.

I know that's canonically not true, but it makes infinitely more sense than all those nonsense entries being accurate.

Gengar's pokedex entries are particularly hilarious with the Let's Go games included, what a contrast

Some of the mega evolutions were nice. Gardevoir and Mawile in particular needed it to be better in battles

I like how so many of the mega dex entries say how much it's hurting the Pokemon, then you get to Mega Pinsir and the Pokedex talks about how happy it is now that it can fly.

I think it's just the main series games that wanted to push back Mega Evolution in favour of a new gimmick, and they felt they needed to portray Mega Evolution as a bad thing, while also hyping up Z Moves as the new ultimate bond between trainer and Pokemon, since Mega Evolution seemed to be reasonably popular. Z Moves weren't as popular, so Sword and Shield didn't try to portray it as a bad thing to make people not want it back, as far as I'm aware. Mega Evolution is still in other things like the anime, Pokemon Go and Pokemon Masters despite this, so even though we probably won't get any new ones, it's going to stick around in some capacity.

Funny you should mention Korrina as well, because she returned in one of the most recent anime episodes, and this time Mega Lucario didn't lose control and go berserk, so it losing control in the first battle was a case of it being unable to handle the surge of power at the time, rather than Mega Evolution being inherently a bad thing.

Yeah, a good day for Pinsir fans. That and it getting viable stab moves(Though X Scissor was gen 4) was the push it needed.

Pokemon descriptions have always come off as surreal. Like a window into a Pokemon game that Nintendo would never ever approve of

Yeah. I do appreciate the added "lore"(Some of the entries are questionable to say the least), some of the more gruesome ones certainly won't actually take place in the game. Maybe one day Gamefreak or someone else who borrows the Pokemon franchise will make a pure grimdark game and surprise us all.

Well there was the Colosseum games with Genius Sonority. Though obviously it's still a game meant for kids, we don't expect someone to get eviscerated or anything like that.

Gen 7's Pokedex entries in general are a step darker than the dex entries before, so it's not just Megas that have this treatment
