Loving this game so far. The visuals are stunning. The gameplay is a little repetitive, but its not a huge issue to me. The soundtrack is amazing. The story has me twisted up, in a good way. Having loved the first game, this game is a worthy sequel.

I dont understand the hate, other than not liking certain aspects of the game like the lgbtq themes and certain plot points, given how strong the CIS gamer community gets about various stuff but to each their own and opinions.

the hate comes from some weird decisions they made with the story half way through

I'm about 15 hours in, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I only one minor criticism of the game, but it's kind of a spoiler, and I might feel differently about it once I finish the game.

I kind of do, but that's based solely on the plot and not other aspects of the game. I can see reasons why people who were invested in the narrative might turn against it. Plus, there's also the fact that Druckmann's kind of a shit so the game gets tainted by association to some degree.

I haven't played the game, but from what I've read of the plot (all of it), I'd probably hate the game as well. Then again, I didn't like the plot of the first game, so I wouldn't be the target audience regardless.

I just reached *major spoilers* the part where you start out as Abby and I already hate it. I dont want to play as this unlikeable bitch for the rest of the game at all.

It seems like most of the hate is coming from either right wing trolls that are upset that women, gay people, and minorities exist, along with people that werent fans of the first but and are upset that a lot of other people did like it and gave it praise.

I just got to the part where the big narrative switch happens half way through. I definitely see why its a controversial decision, but I understand completely why they have made the game this way and I think I'm down for it.

And yeah I am loving it so far. My only real complaint is the gameplay is definitely repetitive, a step down from the first in that regard but the gameplay is also made better through some additional elements. I think its fine, just playing it for about 5 hours a day the last 3 nights has just worn me out, think I might take a break from it for a little while.

The story, while not being as good as the first for sure, I think is told in a stronger, more engaging way which makes up for the generic conflict that acts as the narrative force behind the action. It's really impressive. Overall, so far, I think I prefer the first, but this is definitely a solid game, and the people who hate it (assuming they liked the first) only seem to because either 1. they are whiny internet trolls or 2. the narrative 'twists' don't sit right with them at all, which I understand, but I think its a dumb way to look at a game, as they seem to only want fan-service.

i'm at the very beginning, about 3-4 hours in, and the game plays and feels remarkably like the first, which kind of bums me out since i was expecting a bit of a tone shift. still good, and all the controls from the first are still fresh in my mind. environments and animation are incredible though, ok?

This is about how I feel, I haven't finished it yet, a little bit further than you I think. I think they could of paced the "narrative shift" in a better way, but will have to see how it plays out. Maybe they can release a remixed version as a free new game+ or something.

From what I've seen a lot of people liked the game except for the part where you were forced to play as Abby, I think someone said they got frustrated whenever they opened up a new talent tree because that meant that part of the game had a lot longer to go

Just finished the game. Jesus Christ. Right in the feels.

As someone who lost their father as wel those two parts of the game just hit home. Nevertheless, it was a really enjoyable game.

A couple hours after, some more thoughts. I thought the pacing was a bit wonky and there was a lot of filler combat and exploration. After a few parts, I was like ok here we go again and other parts just shook you from point a to point g and them to point z.

That said, the exploration and visuals were spot on as always. There were a lot of great scenes where I was like, holy fuck this is nice. Some combat scenes that were a bitch to get through but in a good way, like they felt like worthy boss fights, such as the gargantuan inside the Seattle hospital morgue and the hammer dude at the Haven docks. I still enjoy playing the first Last of Us and I dont know if Ill replay part 2 anytime soon.

Overall, I enjoyed the game. Yes, I thought it couldve been better. There were a lot of high points that resonate well with me, but there were a lot of points that didnt hit well, some in a bad way. I understand that others dont agree and thats cool. Its a different game and not everyones cup of tea.

There are a lot of those people, but not everyone who dislikes the game are like that.

I'm one of the ones who greatly disliked some of the story choices with this game. (Especially the ending.)
And I don't mind people who enjoy the story, but I've seen plenty of people act like it's somehow the best video game story ever and how original it is. Like how is a revenge plot all that original?

But that's just me. The graphics, gameplay, and music are all great though.

Just finished it. I shed a tear a couple of times, ngl. Great game overall, but I agree with the sentiment that a particular section of the game dragged a little too long.

Only about 10 hours in, I just found out Dina is pregnant and watched the whole Joel museum sequence. This game is great so far, I'm enjoying it thoroughly, ok?

Some plot points are eye roll moments but all in all it's fine. I'd say the first had a better narrative from what I've played so far on part 2 but part 2 still has moments of brilliance. The gameplay however is improved over the first in every way. The atmosphere and graphics are also improved. Personally I'm really enjoying part 2 and despite its flaws I feel like it's a decent sequel to the first.

I didn't feel the first needed a sequel but this is perfectly fine for being a sequel. I loved The Ellie and Joel part in the museum and Abby and Owen part in the Aquarium. I also like both Ellie and Abby have revenge plots.

Depends if you like games to play them but given this game is story heavy and you've ruined it for yourself it's probably not worth your time.

I'm somewhat slowly working through it. I'm in the hospital right now and the game has moments of being fun and some changes to gameplay are welcomed (going prone, hiding in tall grass) but as of now if I was to rate it I'd give it a 7 or an 8.

Story is okay so far and I love delving into some of the interactions ellie has with people. Great world building with notes around and such. Graphics are top notch and the game looks gorgeous. However, gameplay can be really repetitive and it feels samey all the time. Big open areas look great but have almost nothing in them and start to look the same as well. Maybe it's deliberate.

Still a fun game.

The sound design is TOP NOTCH though. Play with headphones and you'll hear even more background and ambient noises.

I actually thought I was at the epilogue when Ellie was at the farm with Dina and their baby potato. Now Im back playing as Abby though I guess?

I really love the constant reoccurance of walking down that wide hospital hallway to the surgical room door. That wide, quiet stretch leading to it just instantly felt iconic during the first game, and constantly revisiting that walk from different perspectives just really hits me everytime.

I actually get this. You see Abby normal sized, jacked and then really thin and weak. Seeing her thin was more shocking after seeing her so jacked.

I felt playing as Abby and Ellie with Joel for most the game, Abby befriending Ellie before finding out who Ellie and Joel are then killing Joel would have worked better but overall I enjoyed this game and it's narrative. I think Ellie will be killed by a trans guy in the sequel called Billy. I can't wait!
