Okay, no you didn't. Not at all. You got "reamed out hard" for refusing to understand most of the things people complained about didn't come down to a single thing you said it did. Don't get me wrong, I mean no harm and I don't think you deserved the insults, but don't take that in here.

He made a claim that the fireflies in the first game had "experimented on other immune people". I pointed that out, and got ignored, and got reamed out for saying that I didn't think he was making a good argument.

I then posted today that his claim that Joel and Ellie have zero interactions in the game was also false as I am playing the game right now and they have one in the first 15-20 minutes of the game

If you all want to be upset at last of Us 2, fine, go ahead, but don't act like you all didn't chase me out of that topic for disagreeing with you

I was specifically speaking to the TC and his overall argument which I found to be sloppy and filled with inaccurate things. I didn't refuse to understand anything.

Anyway came in to say that it just got me hard with a certain jumpscare. Good god. Galloped over a barbed wire and everything went to shit, horse killed, Dina lost, Ellie captured, etc. But the start of that scene was brilliantly sudden

Playing this with my girlfriend watching is great because I have someone to share similar emotional responses to in real-time. It's making it a very good experience.

Just got to Seattle day 2. I am really enjoying myself

The gameplay is still basically 2013 last of Us just more refined but the production and set pieces are great

Spoilers for the first 3 hours or so, if anyone wants to talk about them:

Joel dying was incredibly predictable overall, but I was shocked at how quick it happened. I read a "joel dies" troll comment on Twitter a month back, and while upset that I had likely gotten spoiled, again figured it would happen at some point.

My expectations were subverted with when it happened though, which is great because I was able to fully experience an emotional response to it.

Was this one of the reasons people were upset?

Honestly, who knows. I've seen some awful complaints about how this game is unfair to white men and emasculating, but I try not to pay any attention to alt-right gamers (unless they're doing something genuinely shitty like participating in a coordinated harassment campaign, and not trying to astroturf a prestige game).

One specific complaint I've read that doesn't sit well with me is deadnaming a trans character as a plot device. Julie Muncy, who reviewed the game, went over it a little bit on her twitter:

To clarify, it's not the complaint that doesn't sit well with me, but the idea of doing this to fuel eventual cathartic release.

If that first "oh shit" moment has people pissed off then yeah as I figured people are just babies.

Not only did I figure it would happen, I could tell almost exactly how it was gonna happen once the new character was introduced. So it didn't take me by surprise at all, but even so I was still shaking with anger during that scene and I loved it. That was real emotion.

My only worry now is that the rest of the game will be as predictable...

You're misreading the situation - the first summary they read of TLOU2 was couched in that language.

Not saying it does! I was explicitly critical of the game in the review topic. I was just curious about your arc with the game - rightly critical of how the game's been presented -> rightly uneasy with how being critical of the game puts you in lockstep with alt-right chuds -> talking with alt-right chuds about the game -> reading an alt-right chud's summary of the game. I'm just glad it didn't stop there. I can see how that message can read as a shitty gotcha though, sorry that it was abrupt and pointed.

And after that bigot summary of the first three hours I was able to find a way to watch it myself and there are a lot of narrative failings and issues with it, and I've seen virtually the whole game by this point and I have a tremendous amount of issues with it from a narrative standpoint overall.

I'd do a big overview of my thoughts in a topic outside of this time after enough time has passed but it doesn't seem fair to do without actually having my hands on the controller and playing it myself.

Finished up during the flashback, but I laughed a few times and generally enjoyed it. Reminded me of some of the lighter parts of the original, presumably on purpose. I like how happy Elsie's journal is here compared to the one in the present. Good contrast.

I just want to see from people who play blind if Abby is at all likeable.

From my perspective I don't think the complaints are Joel dies but are instead we then have to play as Abby.

From what I've seen from most people who have already completed the game of various different political views and backgrounds...

Abby is not likable. They seem very tone deaf to everything concerning her from even before Joel dies where she murders and tortures him in cold blood without a second thought after saving her life to even her own chapters in the story. When her chapter comes, everyone is pretty deflated when they realize they need to play as her, and everything falls flat. Which she does good things in the game, she's also extremely cold and easy to anger and the crux of her sympathy is that Joel killed her dad, which is negated by how horribly she murders him. As a result, you play as a character you don't like and you can't sympathize with her because she went way overboard and seems absolutely manic and thrilled to commit all of her violence. The reason you haven't heard much about Abby as a character is because nobody really has much positive to say about her. She's a bad person who continues to do bad things and barely shows humanity.
