I chose #1 as the trophy list factors heavily in my decision to play a game. The only games I pre-order/buy new are games I really want to play. And I platinum the vast majority of those anyway.

Only games I tend not to platinum are multiplayers, but then I'm not much of a multiplayer anyway

When I was younger and only got one or two new games a month, I'd usually go all in. Now, I'm balancing too many hobbies to want to spend too much time on one game.

If I really like the game I'll go for it as long as it's not ridiculous. If I like the game I will get it if it's simple enough but my tolerance drops proportionally with how much I like the game. My backlog has gotten huge though and I have a lot of games I want to play so I'm more likely to pass on trophies that take a long time

#3 for me. They're fun, I like them, but I mostly just pick up the ones that come naturally. I may go out of my way to get them if I really like the game.

I beat the game, then go for the optional stuff and usually do all trophies but I don't do online boosting and hard mode or new game+ playthroughs. Wasted too much time on x360 doing that. I'd rather do a 130 hr dq11 playthrough platinum than play Chasm a second time on hard

This. Except replace the word month with year. How can you say two games per month and use the word only. Dude, birthday and Christmas. That's it!

I pick up achievements along the way, if I can. For most games, I don't consider it worth the investment of time to do some of the more ridiculous demands or play in game modes I would never otherwise touch (and maybe can't because nobody plays multiplayer for that game.) From my childhood, I still think of myself as a completionist, but I'm quickly realizing that I'm anything but any more.

and I would HATE it when playing online people would stop everything to start grinding an achievement. Or if its 1 on 1 they start begging for you to them win. it just slows everything down or even stops everything in it's tracks

There was a user called Albionhero and he actually started harassing me and just sending me messages asking how I got an achievement in Street Fighter or something when I told him to leave me alone

I personally 100% games but thats different than getting a platinum in my book. Trophies usually make you do shit that you would never dream of doing. I can at least SEE that those can just be seen as challenges or something, and they're just not implemented into the games themselves. For example, there was an achievement in Dead Rising where you have the first survivor and have them attack one of the last bosses in the game

I love DR and that sounded amazing. I actually did that one

Realizing it now, I probably hate ONLINE achievements. 100%ing and achievements are almost the same but MAN its just way different too. Theres just a weirder mentality when it comes to achievements. They have giant websites DEDICATED to it. I look at them as outcasts, like if they were bronies or something

One time in one of those sites they saw I was on a leaderboard and started passing my gamertag around and I started receiving dozens of messages a day asking me to help them

Depends on how much I'm enjoying the game + how much of a pain in the ass/grind it would be.

I also don't usually replay games immediately after finishing them so stuff like FFVIIR ends up very close to plat until I come back and run through it again in six months or a year or five years or whatever.

I first play through the game. I want to enjoy the game and not think about irrelevant, external stuff like achievements. After, I may check out achievement/trophy lists to see what sounds fun. In the case of XB1, if there's a stat-tracking achievement I am super close to finishing, I may go for it immediately.

I always do the 2nd option of choosing a game that I think will be durable as long I manage to get a platinum trophy. Although, that stopped me of doing trophy hunting anymore. Due to TLOU multiplayer on ps3 was a total nightmare trying to boost which led to me quit not only doing trophies, but completely stopped playing other video games because of how annoyed it was involved the stress of unlocking trophies overall. Hated it after I first started doing it beginning 2014 I think.

I actively hate the achievement system and find it a way of giving a fake sense of reward to a player.

I hate achievements, because I feel they're part of how the industry got away with the push towards microtransactions.

Not to mention how unlockable 'cheat' modes are almost extinct now because people worry they'd "devalue" achievements

Some games disable trophies if you enable cheats/mods. More games should do this as it'll be the best of both worlds

Trophies have consumed me. I have not bought games I've been marginally interested in because I looked at their trophy lists and deemed it wasn't worth it. For some games that I really want to play with platinum trophies I know I won't get, I'll just play the game normally, but for others I often base my entire experience on the optimal ways to earn trophies.

It has also made it very difficult to play games without trophies. There are games I got for free on PC that I would still rather buy on PS4 so that I can get the trophies. Sometimes when I want to play my Switch I think, "but there aren't any trophies", so instead of diving into that backlog I just move on to the next PS4 game.

I am addicted.
