Just pretend that every single cop decided to take a month off and no body filled in for them. How would the nation be during that time?

Relatively the same. Gun ownership would go up, but still relatively the same.

In those instances where it happens, there is a problem. But people that try to pretend like all cops are bad or a vast majority of interactions with police end in tragedy are out of touch with reality.

The national guard would take the cops place and the police force would more than likely be disbanned resulting in actual martial law....which may or may not be a good thing....probably see actual militas forming not just redneck cosplayers.

Instead of the police striking or outright quitting, it might be good to have regular citizens work as cops through some kind of rotation, for a period of time. Some countries have a mandatory service for the military, for example.

I think this would bridge the disconnect that exists between law enforcement and the people they are supposed to be protecting. Besides, there are a lot of people who think law enforcement isnt actually dangerous or hard, and they seem to have the solutions for how to fix the system. Likewise, it could be an improvement to have a police force that is not entrenched and has more of a personal stake in the wellbeing of their community.

Pretty much, if I were in charge of my neighbourhood I certainly wouldn't kill my neighbours or throw them into a cage for having drugs
