Toxtricity 05/29/20 10:28:10 PM #11:	Heading Back to Town Confronting Myself I enjoy both Go Shiina and ZUN having so much fun being their unmistakably "them" selves, no one else would write either of these pieces of music but them. neither are really a favorite example from either but Heading Back to town does a bit more of what I like about Go Shiina than rftm does for what i like about ZUN it's a shame i'm not a bigger fan of zadok, i've been in a really "80s mood" the past few days, but i just hate that one compositionally too much no matter how much i like individual bits ("cool chords" sometimes, fun chord stabs and solos, etc) and no matter how much i like the timbral aesthetic it exudes. Confronting Myself has never stopped being something I love, 9/16 polymeter and chanting and fun glitchiness that never gets old to me. It was a legend before I arrived, the original Id Purpose and the banner-carrier for Touhou, and it's sad to see it get in each year and ultimately get drowned by the competition. However, Heading Back to Town was my pet pick this year, the only one of my original nominations from (effective) post #1 in the nom thread, and I thought it would be really well received by the current VGMC zeitgeist. RFTM has a very non-zero chance of winning the wild card still. Second match is also really good. Zadok got mired in the endless tiebreaker last round with To the Distant Sky, but unless people decide that it shouldn't be eligible and anti-vote it, I expect it to put up a pretty good fight against Confronting Myself...which was one of the strongest songs from last year to not retire, and my favorite of the tracks I had heard from Celeste until Magic Mirror Mix came along. I like Touhou music a lot. But Reach for the Moon is a B-tier Touhou song and is only in because of whatever meme I haven't been here for. Whatever Still wish I could get the B-side for Reflections in, but Confronting Myself is still super solid and emotional.
