They really are a shady ass company it's just that they have a legion of fanboys to defend them and keep them afloat at all costs. They also make good to great games which is another shield against their really gross practices

all have more then 20 good games. square has like 5 great games and 5 good ones.

I always thought that their games looked amazing but played like ass.

They've been milking menu-based RPGs for all they are worth though, for sure.

Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3 has god tier combat. Anything of that quality I will play. Too bad they are the only 2 square enix games with amazing gameplay.

Chrono Trigger is literally one of the best games of all times.

lol doesn't change the stats much.

The only great games they made were
ffvii, chrono trigger, kingdom hearts 2, kingdom hearts 3 (with remind) and the world ends with you.

Good games
Mario RPG, Dragon Quest XI, FFVII remake (boss fights that's it lol, ruins the charm of the o.g script and takes itself way too seriously), Dissidia 012.

Games that had potential
Lightning Returns (actual decent combat system).

literally racking my brain to think of anything else.

Even the thing they are praised for, their story telling is trash tier.

I played Mario RPG and I never understood the love for it. I got to the part where your second partner, I forget if it was Mallow or Geno you get second but I had them both and I quit. Found no fun in it at all lol. Will take paper mario over it any day.

That's the issue you already played the superior game. The best thing about mario rpg is the characters, story and atmosphere tbh. It mostly just layed the foundation for mario rpgs.

Actually paper mario 1 is pretty mediocre tbh, I'd put mario rpg over it.

Personally? I'd define "recent" as being 2010 or above, but I loved Final Fantasy II, IV, VII, Tactics, and IX. X wasn't bad, but it's a bit overrated... I have mixed feelings about a lot of the others, but some other pre-2010 games I liked a lot from them were Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Crisis Core, and The World Ends With You.

2010 and above games that I like a lot:

Kingdom Hearts BBS
Kingdom Hearts DDD
Dissidia (Duodecim)
Final Fantasy VII Remake

And that's really all that comes to mind for me right now, x.x . Nier Automata seems nice, but I haven't had the opportunity to play more than the demo.

Pretty much. They make sure their graphics are as good as possible, but neglect the actual gameplay aspects of their products. So you end up with things like FFXV, which look good but play like ass.

And they seemingly can't be fucked to get competent writers, so their JRPGs (a genre which heavily focuses on story) end up with some of the worst story-telling possible. FFXV is an example yet again for this, along with KH3.

That was developed by Platinum, though. Square just handled its publishing and distribution, iirc.

lol their recent games don't even look that good technically. FFVII is not a GREAT looking game and neither was FFXV. FFXIII was outclassed by uncharted on ps3 as well.

Also 99.9% of jrpgs have shit stories. Only one I can think off the top of my head with a really good story is Suikoden 2.

The best single player game they've actually developed in the last decade is FF7R which is decent but loses a lot of the charm of the original by stretching out one short segment of the game into 30 hours and just ending where the original game basically begins

The averaged scores recognizable SE developed *original* games since the 2003 merger is ~82%--"Great"(80%+), in-between "Good" (70%+) and "Excellent" (90%+).

bbs is shit tier. Combat is worse then kh2 in every way. Dream drop has the Osaka issues, but the maneuverability is fun as hell.

crisis core is trash tier, the combat is so rng reliant and hands off.
