I still watch TWD and watched Westworld S3 last week
TWD is pretty generic nowadays and not really going anywhere so I just watch it till it ends, whatever
Westworld S3 was better than the disaster that was S2 but also felt more pointless and much much much less clever
It does some amazing things with techology though, rivals that of Black Mirror

My brother defends the ending and said that he likes it. Even on a rewatch he said it's still good. I haven't found anybody else ever say anything good about it.

oh I don't think he's close to finishing, but he's certainly closer than Martin. He's shown something.

I do think the next Lynch book has a decent shot of coming out in the next two years.

That final season of GoT is like Matrix Revolutions. I saw it once, kinda hated it, and will likely never watch it ever again.

I liked it on the whole. I was never not entertained by it anyway

It's very clearly flawed and rushed in a lot of ways and lacks the richness of the earlier seasons, not denying that.

I hate that they shortened the last two seasons so much, it fucked everything. 7x05 and 8x04 especially are as if the writers were just throwing characters around the map as the plot sped along as fast as possible to set stuff up.

So yeah I totally get the issues people had, but there was still more stuff I enjoyed than didn't enjoy. I even like the finale - at least up until John kills Dany. Everything up to and including that scene - especially the excellent John/Tyrion scene - is good stuff. Everything after it is...a little neat and did a lot of things I wasn't a fan of.

It certainly isnt good, but its also not nearly as bad as most people make it out to be. Its probably not even one of the bottom five tv endings ever, maybe not even bottom ten.

I read through all the books again after watching the final season and that takes quite a bit of time. I needed to remember it was good.

Winds of Winter is coming (get it?). He's probably fiddling around back and forward with some stuff while most of it is done, but it's been close for a while. I also think the pandemic is making it go faster. Though of course the people at worldcon in New Zealand can't imprison him until he's done when the worldcon isn't happening because of said pandemic.

Though we'll see if he can and will finish in one book after that, that's a lot more uncertain.

i'll probably never really be over it. i think the final good episode of the show's run was the dragon battle in 7x04.

what sucks even more is that the storyline was obviously hitting some of the right checkmarks, but doing so in abominable ways that showed just how little the showrunners understood and cared about getting it right.

it also just really felt like it suffered from a lack of creativity and/or intelligence. i feel like the showrunners were given an enormous amount of agency to go from point A to point B and parlayed it into simplistic, dull, stupid, and controversial choices.

jaime choosing cersei in the end is almost certainly going to happen in the books. so is dany roasting king's landing and even stannis burning shireen. but the execution of it, the buildup, is so lazy and poor.

Crowded bars watching like it's a major sporting event? I feel like future generations simply will not understand

I mean yeah they raged about a lot of stuff before but never to this regard
They said how much it was out of character and stuff

this was basically my point in making this topic. the comparisons to other fad shows like tiger king do not work.

got was a cultural experience for a hot minute and they managed to shit the bed so hard with the last season that all of the good will the show had built up over 7 years was not only lost but transformed onto active dislike for the show

it's remarkable, really.

People didn't rage viciously against Mass Effect 3's ending because they didn't care, you know?

While a strong episode, I'll personally put my vote in for 8x02 "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". The rest of the season might have been a total wash, but I enjoyed the calm before the storm.

I still watch TWD, only cause I'm in 10 seasons deep at this point and might as well see it through to the end. 7 and 8 were the lower seasons, but it's picked up a little since. Doesn't inspire me to watch FTWD or the upcoming second spinoff of the series though.

Walking Dead got much better after they were done with the whole Saviors arc. It's still not especially great, but better than it was

ME3 did get fixed yes

But my point is people were very hyped for me3, and because it had so many characters that different people liked (like GoT), lots of people were seriously invested

And then the ending underserved those characters and that passion turned nasty. It's not surprising to me that the same thing happened with GoT.

Game of thrones ending is an abomination that ranks up there with stuff like Dexter. How they managed to make almost every character on the show throw away years of character arcs and character building for incredibly cheap endings was astounding. Dont even get me started on the battle for winterfell, the conclusion to one of the biggest arcs that lasted EVERY season that was so dark I paused it to make sure my brightness was correct

Also I've said it before but understand my view is biased a bit because Barry is the best show currently on TV and to watch the horrendous s8 of thrones and then immediately roll into the incredible S2 of Barry moments later kept reminding me how bad thrones had gotten

Despite my "Negative Nanis" stigma, if I like something, I usually like it more than the average viewer that lose interst quickly (I mean, I liked Naruto wayyy after the Chuunin exam, and liked Bleach wayyy after Soul Society arc...)
And did not agree with a lot of criticism the show got after they started not following the books. I thought those were just elitist book readers being crybabies

But then Littlefinger's death happened and I couldn't defend that at all. That was the moment I realized they don't care anymore and just want the show to get over with

The one that masterminded the entire show. Set everything in motion. Have great plans for the future...just dies because Bran has maphack. Seriously?

I don't know about that one. The whole valonqar part of the prophecy was left out of the show, and I could see that being because they changed something. The books are already taking things in different directions.
