Now that I think about it, you know what no resolution? Those big doors in front of the Zoldyck family estate. What I mean by that is, they make a big deal about how you have to be really tough to open even one door, and there's like seven, and Killua opened THREE when he came back!!! So you'd think there would be a scene of someone opening all of them just to show how strong THEY are. But, no, didn't happen.... not yet at least.

I still also don't know what Killua's mom is a robot either.

You should, it's one of those rare shows that only gets better on rewatch. Understanding nen better and being able to spot all the forshadowing Togashi had in store for us only elevates an already great show.

I did! Just got to Gon passing the exam.

Trying to be critical of the series where I can, though it's tough, it just is that good. The biggest flaw so far that I didn't remember is that the musical direction for at least this first arc has been pretty poor. It's not the music itself being bad (except that one peppy track I'm sure I don't have to specify), it's just very amateureshly implemented.

Man the music is probably the only aspect of Hunter x Hunter I couldn't find a way to criticize.

Though I guess my memories are moreso of the later arcs.

Oh, for sure, I know factually it's incredibly later on. Songs in the early goings here sometimes go in and out like an amateur high school drama kid trying to score a school play. There was one point a couple episodes ago where they even have one track overlapping with the next track for like a second. A lot of it is just not appropriate for the events, either. There are also a ton of scenes where the obvious choice is to cut the music out for this shot, but they just let it ride.

This is all stuff I definitely did not notice the first time around, and only now is apparent to me while marathoning.

As for the one awful song, it's that one that's just, like, a dollar store electric piano intercperced with someone hitting a wooden block for 10 seconds straight.

I hate that goofy big band song.

Especially since this isn't even representative. They stretch that wooden block hitting in the show out, sometime for over 10 seconds at a time.

The music was the main thing that was criticized compared to HxH 99 while it was airing.

Up to the episode where Chrollo gives everyone their fortunes. Hisoka's fortune changed as soon as he gave it to someone to read.

Yeah, he didn't want the others to know his real fortune. I think he explains this at some point. I actually thought he internal monologued it as he did but I suppose not and he must flashback to it or something.

Gon: Can I really keep the troupe's attention for a second...? *shows scene of Gon keeping their attention for several seconds*

Also these guys are going WAAAY to far to trying to Kurapika's secret. The ALL wanted Nen daggers in their hearts in case, I guess in case the troupe caught them and tried to get info about Kurapika from them?? And again, Kurapika's secret is that ONE of his abilities can only be used against the Phantom Troupe. I'm not really even sure how they can exploit that. Taking innocents hostage and using them as shields so he can't use Chain Jail?

I guess they could also get someone to pose as a Troupe member, then reveal they weren't one once he uses Chain Jail on them.

Nen can be pretty match-up dependant, if Kurapika can't use his main move he might lose to another physical monster like Uvo or maybe even someone with a fancy offensive move.

For example, they could hire the Zoldyck family to kill him.

I think the troupe doesn't even know anything about Kurapika right? Like not even who he is or what he looks like? I remember thinking that's the sort of information they were trying to get.

Even if they fight Kurapika themselves, knowing what exactly he can do can be huge. Nen users make a lot of effort to hide what their abilities are because fights in this manga can be decided by tactics very easily.

Yeah, the Troupe don't know anything about him. That's why they want to take out the one who can basically read minds first (I forget her name right now), and also why Killua was so stressed about it because they only reason they got away before was because they genuinely didn't know Kurapika was the chain user.

Also I keep thinking Kurapika can just use th chains in others ways, but the reason WHY they're so effective at holding people down is because of the condition he put on them. The reason why he could keep Uvo restrained in the first place was because of that. So I'm sure if Kurapika tried to use his chains for other attacks they wouldn't be nearly as effective. Aftter all, conjured items are not as strong as the real thing IIRC.

Im a little anxious about wanting to see Gon turn into a giant adult man already. I think its because its the latest plot point in the story that I know about, so when that happens everything that comes after will be completely unknown. For all I know dies Gon 10 seconds after transforming!

I COMPLETELY forgot any Spiders were on Greed Island. Do they leave right away or something? If someone asked me before today if they showed up here I would hav confidentially answered no.

Oh.... THATS how this Phantom Troupe arc ends? Really? Well, alright then. Onto Greed Island I suppose. It was really funny to hear the narrator literally talk about the Greed Island arc coming up next, as if maybe the viewer might be confused and thing the current arc isn't over yet.

It is definitely the most jarringly sudden end to an arc out there.

I imagine it's at least tangentially related to this being where the original anime ended, with Greed Island being covered in OVAs that released after the fact. Like "hey we're still going this time!"

yeah... i wasn't a huge fan of this arc as a whole, even though it had cool moments. it's a big anticlimax. that said, it's interesting the way the show actively seeks these anticlimactic endings to arcs, as you found with the previous battle tower arc.

"Departure!" is synonymous with HxH 2011 and will never change thought the series. The visuals will continue to become more dynamic, though.

Also, since you're past it, here's the York New OP of the 1999 series that I love a lot, which gives you a good idea of the different atmosphere it had for it back then.

I really like the ending to the Phantom Troupe arc. It's impressive how Togashi managed to pull off a stalemate between Kurapika and the boys vs The Troupe vs Hisoka using all those Nen powers and for it all not to feel like a cop out.

I don't hate it by any means, and it is a very unique way to end a shonen arc. It kinda came out of nowhere. Like if the narrator didn't say "Next up is the Greed Island arc!!" I mightve thought that wasn't the end.

It just dawned on me, but for being the main character Gon has not not been in very episode, he has naver been the strongest character in the show. He's often not even in the Top 5/10! Honestly, he's done very little fighting for a shonen protagonist. Like what, 5 fights if that?

ALSO, in the Heaven's Arena arc during one fight (I think it is Hisoka vs. the doppelganger guy), there's a little scene where some guy enters the announcer booth and says something about the fighters. The announcer is like, who are you?? And I dont think he ever appears again... what's up with that?

Isekai's been popular for a long time, going back to stuff like Alice in Wonderland and Chronicles of Narnia. Twelve Kingdoms is a good anime one from the 90s.
