The 2011 anime obviously. I'm like 24 episdes in right now. I guess I could say I'm in the middle of the "Killua Rescure Arc", though I dont know if he needs resucing anymore... I think it's pretty good so far! I wasn't sure what to expect, this is what I knew going in:

  • There's Gon, he's like Green Naruto
  • I think he might transform into a big buff guy with long hair??
  • "Reverse Super Saiyan"
  • "Chimera Ant Arc"
  • "Nen"
  • There's a clown
  • There's a power introduced thats like Stands but without the stand (this might be "Nen")

So I kinda knew nothing. I'm surprised how much I like Gon, I thought at best I'd be amibvalent towards him but as far as a the happy-go-lucky child protagnists go he's not as obnoxious as I thought he might be. Then you got his friends. There's Killua, he's like a happy Sauske. He's sorta cool. There's uh, Karapuuika or whatever. He's whatever. Then there's Leorio. He's like, a normal guy?? I don't think he's had a real fight yet. Actually, he's suspiciously haven't had a fight yet, hm...... . Hisoka is cool, definitely like him.

The whole Exam arc was cool. I won't hold this story for starting with an exam arc either, I mean this predates Naruto right? It probably came UP with the exam arc idea.

I'm watching the dub, it's actually REALLY good so far. I hope they've dubbed all the episodes, and I can faind said episodes with ease....

HxH 2011 was fully dubbed, the whole thing aired on Toonami a year or two back, so you don't need to worry about abruptly running out of dub episodes at any point.

And the anime itself is a masterpiece, hope you enjoy it!

One of the all time greats, possibly best in genre.

Killua Rescue Arc is fine, but probably the series low point? It's almost entirely uphill from here.

And watching the 2011 version is the obvious choice in regards to which to watch, but it's not obvious in the sense that if someone said "go watch Hunter x Hunter" they'd no for sure which one. It's not like 2011 is in the name! Plus most anime "remakes" in general over the last decade have been....baaaaaad.

Yeah, same here. I guess I just, I don't know, I'm in the mood for a shonen right now I guess?

Glad to hear it's all dubbed! I doubt it's all on Netlfix, unless the seasons get way longer (or what Netflix has decided to call seasons for this show).

And yeah, I've heard that the 2011 anime is definitely the one to go with, so I figured it was obvious that'd be what someone in 2020 would watch. Still thought I'd specify just to be clear.

The second half of the dub (final two arcs) isn't legally streaming anywhere yet.

Toonami's rights expired last month, so it will probably wind up on Netflix at some point, but who knows how long that will take.

I finally bit the bullet and watched it while knee-deep in Stardew Valley.

This might be a hot take, but the Requiem scene in the Yorknew arc is the best scene of the series, and perhaps the best scene in all of shoenen.

Man, I loved HxH. I only got about halfway through before the free episodes on the Roku channel ran out, though.

The exam arc was incredible with how it developed the characters. I still can't believe they actually had an episode that consisted almost entirely of running through a tunnel and it was absolutely riveting.

The first half of the heavens arena arc was a little dull with too much "Nen, blah, blah, balh" stuff. But the end of Episode 9 and Episode 10 was epic!!

The Phantom Troupe arc was also outstanding from start to finish.

But that''s where it stopped for me. Does anyone know of anywhere to watch the last 3 story arcs dubbed? Or do I just need to wait for Netflix/ hulu as mentioned earlier?

Even in this recap of what everyone has been up to, Leorio continues to just be "normal guy". Even in the new intro he doesn't do anything special....... VERY suspicious

Yeah, it's obvious.

The old one wasn't terrible, tbh it was also quite good, but it's redundant now, and incomplete and has enough filler that there's no reason to watch it first now. I realize many of the people who saw it first see it as some precious version of it, but I've seen it first and I prefer the second sooo...

I've had someone be offended because I called it a shounen.

Why, such refined manifestation of ART must, at the very least, receive the label of seinen, to indicate the level of maturity possessed by its fans compared to fans of other more pedestrian works.

They tend to be pretty common in most other anime communities, where they go to explain to fans of other works why the thing they like is inferior to HxH.

I usually see these folks when talking about other popular manga. I think its lack of popularity/recognition makes them feel inferior, when it probably suffers more from years of no anime adaption in the 2000s/infrequent updates.

As someone who does not like action shows, I got into it about as much everything like it. I just skip all the fights and only read exposition and world building.

I'm very concerned about these leeches in Uvogin. It's very creepy and I hope its dealt with soon and/or I don't know, he dies in battle so its no longer a concern.
