I was reading about the history of the super sentai and power rangers and in like the 80's I think, they tried once before to do power rangers, based on an even earlier super sentai season. but for reasons I can't remember, it failed. and then they tried again in the 90's with the power rangers we now know. Nostalgia is the biggest factor, but I also think it helps season 1-3 was a continuation of the story and to a lesser extent there was some continuation up until In Space.
