like a lot of interesting characters are just soulless robots halfway through the game. the only ones that have an meaningful interactions are the protagonists, the main girl, and like 2-3 other characters tops

not going to count before 6 because those were primitive stories. 5 was great everyone had meaning the whole game but afterwards

terra (worst "protagonist" ever she disappears for most of the 1st half and then becomes useless in WoR)
locke (literally 2 lines of dialogue in WoR)
strago

barret (after north coral hes completely pointless, even with the huge matetia shit
yuffie (really depends on when you do wutai though, so maybe doesnt count)

quistis (i legitimately forgot she existed after dollet)

amarant (does he even count tho)
freya (her people go bye bye and turns out so did her story)

just a pet peeve of mind. i'm glad ff7 got remade so they can focus on the characters more. hope other games get the same treatment

meh, remake seems to accomplish that only by forcing you to use the characters they want you to use when they want you to use them

ff9 is one of my favorite games ever but it still enraged me that Freyas plot just... stops. It sort of kind of gets resolution (sort of?) in the ending sequence but literally nothing happens with her between about a quarter into the game and that point.

She goes from being one of the most prominent characters with a lot of inner turmoil going on to someone who just occasionally shows up to say a few lines

WoR characters don't have dialogue outside of their sidequests because they didn't know how to program recognizing a character in the party and using their specific dialogue. Plus, FF6's cartridge was already full to bursting with dialogue, regardless.
